Is UFC 110 a Must-Win Match for Keith Jardine?
By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Feb 15th 2010 12:40 PM
He's been a UFC staple since he first joined the company during season two of The Ultimate Fighter. He has wins over two former light-heavyweight champions -- Forrest Griffin and Chuck Liddell -- on his resume. But heading into his UFC 110 matchup with Ryan Bader, it's easy to wonder about Keith Jardine's standing in the UFC.
Jardine (15-6-1) has lost three of his last four bouts and won only twice since the start of 2007, with both of those victories coming via split decisions.
Michael Bisping: Wanderlei Silva 'Not the Most Difficult Guy to Prepare For'
By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Feb 11th 2010 12:02 PM
Facing a must-win fight to stay in the densely packed middleweight title picture, British middleweight Michael Bisping is taking no chances.
Making sure his body is adjusted to the drastic time change, he'll have been in Australia for nearly three weeks by the time he steps into the cage. He's also gone through his customary grueling camp. But when it comes to readying himself for the legendary brawler Wanderlei Silva, he says that's not necessarily the most challenging part of his preparation.
"To be honest, in some respects, he isn't the most difficult guy to prepare for," Bisping said on a Wednesday conference call. "The striking element and the loopy punches. Outside of that, I think that that's pretty much all he's got to offer. Obviously he has good Muay Thai, he's very experienced and good on the ground and stuff, but he likes to strike and so England with its background in boxing and Thai boxing, we have lots of guys to try to replicate that style."
Rampage Jackson to Make UFC Return at UFC 110 ... Sort of
By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Feb 10th 2010 5:07 PM
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson hasn't been seen in the vicinty of a UFC octagon in over six months. His last UFC bout was nearly a year ago, and since his feud with UFC president Dana White went public last fall, he's been seen mostly in stills from his upcoming "A-Team" movie, on TMZ and other Hollywood shows.
But the former UFC light-heavyweight champion will at least temporarily be back in the UFC fold when the organization makes its maiden voyage to Australia for UFC 110 on Feb. 20.

The onetime UFC light-heayvweight champion, who is still on an extended sabbatical from the cage upon filming a major role in the upcoming "A-Team" movie, recently saw the majority of a breach of contract case dismissed with prejudice, MMA Fighting has learned.
Rashad Evans' Return to Wrestling Roots Good Long-Term Move For Success
By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Jan 4th 2010 11:54 AM
Perhaps it wasn't the dominant statement he hoped to make, but Rashad Evans managed a UFC 108 win over Thiago Silva in a mature performance featuring a varied game plan that is important for the major dividends it can pay down the road.
Evans returned to his wrestling roots and controlled Silva for most of the opening two rounds, connecting on seven of 11 takedown tries in putting the explosive Brazilian striker in a place he didn't want to be: on his back.
That might not seem like a major shock; Evans first came to prominence as a guy who was almost exclusively a wrestler. But over time, he has become largely reliant on the standup game. In his three fights prior to facing off with Silva, he had tried just one takedown in nearly 30 minutes of action.
'Cursed' Event Delivers Big for UFC
By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Jan 3rd 2010 9:34 AM
UFC 108, they said, was cursed.
How bad did the "curse" get? Even UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, who was left scrambling several times trying to fill holes in the card, blew out the medial collateral ligament in his knee in the days before the event.
UFC 108 Main Event Breakdown: Thiago Silva vs. Rashad Evans
By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Jan 1st 2010 10:03 AM
It's not the fight Rashad Evans wanted, but a UFC 108 matchup against Thiago Silva still gives the former UFC light heavyweight champion the opportunity to rebound from his first professional loss in one of the most devastating knockouts of the year.
As we all know, Evans was supposed to return to fighting in a grudge match against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, his fellow Ultimate Fighter season 10 coach and also a former 205-pound champ who eventually surprised the MMA public when he pulled out of the proposed bout to take a role in "The A-Team" film remake.

Rashad Evans Credits Rampage Jackson for Helping Him Cope With Loss
By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Dec 30th 2009 5:19 PM
Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans clearly had his issues with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson during their season together taping "The Ultimate Fighter." But surprisingly, Evans says that the time they spent bickering was actually beneficial to him -- at least about one thing.
That's right, Evans said during a Wednesday press conference at the MGM Grand that Rampage's propensity to pop off about Evans' highlight reel knockout loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC 98 helped him get past the defeat.
Rashad Evans' Holiday Wish Is for Comeback Win Over Thiago Silva
By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Dec 22nd 2009 4:02 PM
Last Year at Christmas, Rashad Evans was sitting in a hotel room at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas alone. On the cusp of his UFC light-heavyweight title shot against Forrest Griffin, he couldn't help but miss his family, but the sacrifice paid off when he defeated Griffin to become the champion.
One year later, Evans is again preparing for a key matchup during the holiday season. This time around, it's a key fight against Thiago Silva at UFC 108 on Jan. 2.
For the 30-year-old, it will mark a major first in his pro career: the first fight after losing.
UFC Signs Top 205-Pound Prospect, Former NCAA Champ Phil Davis
By Mike ChiappettaPosted: Dec 17th 2009 10:37 AM
With the war for MMA talent heating up lately, the importance of every signing has become magnified. The UFC has captured the latest prized recruit, signing former four-time collegiate wrestling All-American and undefeated pro fighter Phil Davis to a multi-fight deal, according to his manager Chad Dubin.
"We signed him yesterday to a UFC contract and we expect to have a date for his first fight soon," Dubin wrote in an email to FanHouse.
The ex-Penn State star, who won the 197-pound NCAA National Championship in 2008 and started his pro career months later, is 4-0 in his brief stretch as a pro, and has been considered one of the sport's true blue-chip prospects since his debut.
