Jane After Dark: 'Supernatural' is Approaching 'Buffy' Territory

Jane After Dark, Supernatural
Even though some episodes still scare the crap out of me, I'm really getting into 'Supernatural.' I know this because it's tough trying to do other work while I'm watching it at night. Impossible, really. Instead, I use it as my own little incentive program -- edit this post, watch five minutes of 'Supernatural,' write up that review, watch five minutes of 'Supernatural.' Cubicle workers have bonuses and rewards programs, I have 'Supernatural.'

'Damages' - 'Don't Throw That at the Chicken' Recap

Damages: Don't Throw That at the Chicken(S03E04) There was family dysfunction all around in this episode of 'Damages.' We had Patty dealing with her son, Ellen dealing with her sister (and jerk of a dad), Tom dealing with his in-laws (who seem like very sweet people), and the ongoing strife within the Tobin family.

And swirling around it all was Patty Hewes, who always knows more than she lets on -- but maybe not enough, as evidenced by her phone call to ... someone in that least scene.

25 Things You Didn't Know About ... Seinfeld

Seinfeld CastThink you know everything there is to know about 'Seinfeld'? Ok, maybe you do, but for the rest of us, TV Guide Channel put together a special called '25 Things You Didn't Know About ... Seinfeld.'

For example, Elaine isn't the only one who can work for J. Peterman. In fact, J. Peterman is a real person with a real catalog that 'Seinfeld' just happened to make famous. And John O'Hurley, who played J. Peterman on the show, actually bought the company a year after Seinfeld ended, bringing it out of bankruptcy to co-own it with J. Peterman himself.

Jane After Dark: I Believe in the Power of 'Supernatural'

Supernatural - Jane After Dark
'Supernatural' is one of those shows I've been hearing about since it first premiered in 2005. I was never a fan of shows with demons and ghosts and the like until I finally watched 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer.' Now I'm sort of hooked on them.

I'm not gonna lie, though. I'm just a few episodes into 'Supernatural,' and so far, it's terrifying. It could be a good long while before I'm able to swim in a lake ('Dead in the Water'), go camping ('Wendigo'), fly on a plane ('Phantom Traveler'), or look in a mirror ('Bloody Mary'). And I'm convinced that my husband is probably a shape-shifter ('Skin').

'The Vampire Diaries' - 'Fool Me Once' Recap

The Vampire Diaries: Fool Me Once
(S01E14) "Spirits talk, Mr. Salvatore, and so does my granddaughter. You are no friend to us. Now get off my porch." - Sheila to Damon

Well, finally! Finally we get to that darn tomb and see what's in there (lots of scary souls). At the beginning of this episode, I was going to complain about how 'The Vampire Diaries' has been a lot of talk and not much action lately. But at least we got the tomb scene, and Sheila's awesome witch powers. Still ... is it just me, or has the show leveled off a bit on the excitement factor?

'Past Life' - 'Pilot' Recap (series premiere)

Past Life
(S01E01) 'Past Life' is not a bad show, but I don't know if it will stand out enough to make it past the first few episodes. But who knows, it might strike a chord with viewers and find a spot on the DVR schedules. It's a little bit 'House,' a little bit 'Medium,' and a little bit 'Fringe.'

The story follows Dr. Kate McGinn (Kelli Giddish), a psychologist specializing in past life regression -- memories of past lives or incarnations. In the pilot episode, a teenager named Noah has flashes where he remembers something that never happened to him. He sees visions of a kidnapping and murder, and we eventually learn that he's actually remembering something from someone else's life.

'Castle' - 'Suicide Squeeze' Recap

Castle - Suicide Squeeze
(S02E15) First of all, those stilettos Beckett had on were awesome. I'm not saying that so much as a girl crush, but as more of a 'Sex and the City' sort of style thing. Her mullet seems to have calmed down a little, and overall, I'm liking her style (though I'm still on the fence about her jacket pictured above). Girlfriends, what say you about the jacket?!

Review: '24' - '10:00PM - 11:00PM'

24, season 8, episode 7
(S08E07) I'm going to whine a lot about this episode, so that's just a little warning to anyone absolutely loving this season of '24.' But first, let's talk about the great scene where Renee goes ballistic, stabs Vladimir, then accidentally stabs Jack. Then Jack takes the knife out and hurls it at the other guy coming in the door. Awesome!

Ok, now for the bad stuff. For one thing, I thought we were going to get to see Renee kick some major butt this season. So far, she's just a wimpy female with a big fat vengeance chip on her shoulder who still gets knocked around by the bad guys (excepting that awesome scene noted above). Come on, Renee! I want a female Jack Bauer, not some sniveling sap!

Super Bowl Live Blog at Asylum

Super Bowl logoIf you're looking for a fun way to enhance your Super Bowl XLIV viewing experience, our own Danny Gallagher will be live blogging the game over at Asylum.

Danny has a vested interest in the game, since he grew up in New Orleans and is super excited to see his hometown team, the New Orleans Saints, bring home the Vince Lombardi trophy. After all, it's been 43 years since they've made a Super Bowl appearance. It's time, people. The Indianapolis Colts will just have to try again some other year.

Danny will also be Livetweeting Super Bowl Sunday at Asylum starting at 6PM ET, along with Asylum and NPR contributor Renny MacKay. You can join in that conversation by using the #AsylumSB hashtag. In fact, check it out now, because the conversation has already started. What did we do before live blogging and tweeting? We led such lonely, distant lives. But not anymore!

Go Danny! Go Saints!

Review: 'Fringe' - 'Jacksonville'

Fringe: Jacksonville
(S02E15) "We're standing in two buildings, one of which comes from the alternate universe." - Walter

Well, we asked for it, and we got it. A few big reveals -- or not -- about the alternate universe and Olivia's part in it. Big episode of 'Fringe' tonight, with lots of things coming together. This is the winter finale, and the next episode airs April 1, 2010.
