Can you really make a difference in the fight against HIV/AIDS? Yes, you can!
Elected officials and other government decision-makers are much more likely to adopt sound HIV-related policies when they know that significant numbers of the people they represent want them to do so. The San Francisco AIDS Foundation's Public Policy Department has succeeded in assuring a strong and effective government response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. That success is a direct result of the fact that when we speak on an issue, thousands of clients, community members and service providers are standing behind us and raising their voices as members of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation HIV Advocacy Network (HAN).
HAN recruits, trains and organizes people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS to actively encourage elected officials and government decision-makers to approve sound public policy in response to the epidemic.
HAN creates a range of opportunities to engage its members to influence public policy regarding HIV/AIDS:
Action and Information Alerts
At critical moments as specific HIV/AIDS policy issues move forward, HAN briefs its members and asks them to communicate their positions to decision-makers using concise alerts that are easy to respond to. Subscribe to these alerts by joining the San Francisco AIDS Foundation Action Center and subscribing to "HIV Advocacy Network Alerts."
Lobby Events
HAN organizes its members to travel to Washington D.C. and Sacramento to visit lawmakers, participate in rallies, public hearings and other events to influence HIV/AIDS policy. HAN is a leader in organizing dynamic advocacy events that empower participants and influence policy development.
HIV Policy Watch
The bulletin of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation's Public Policy Department, HIV Policy Watch updates HAN members about HIV policy issues and developments at the federal, state and local levels. Published 10 times a year, this brief and concise bulletin is distributed by email. Subscribe to this publication by joining the San Francisco AIDS Foundation Action Center and subscribing to
