California HIV/AIDS Hotline

The California HIV/AIDS Hotline, a program of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, provides information about HIV and AIDS, emotional support, and referrals in both English and Spanish including information on HIV and STD testing, HIV transmission, HIV/AIDS treatments, and other related topics.

The Hotline is staffed each year by more than 100 volunteers, who complete a 32-hour training program to prepare them for their work. Volunteers are supported by a small group of paid staff who coordinate schedules and provide support during each shift of the Hotline.

Both volunteers and staff are assisted by a Foundation-maintained referral database at www.aidshotline.org. The database contains more than 1,300 referral organizations and programs providing HIV/AIDS services throughout California.

The Hotline handles more than 70,000 calls and emails each year. All calls are anonymous and confidential. Hotline hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and from 9:00am to 9:00pm on Tuesdays.

  • 1-888-225-AIDS (toll-free TTY line)
