Scott Coker to Dana White: 'Can't We All Just Get Along?'

By Ariel HelwaniPosted: 06/18/2010 03:01 PM ET

When MMA Fighting asked Dana White following UFC 115 whether he was concerned Strikeforce would try to re-sign their middleweight champion Jake Shields, the UFC president made it very clear, once again, that he does not view the San Jose-based organization as being any kind of threat.

"Strikeforce doesn't mean jack sh** to me," White said. "I could care less what they're doing. I can't even believe that people put their name in a conversation. 'Oh, what about Strikeforce?' What about Strikeforce? They're minor league. You might as well ask me about what is going on with the DEF or the ZBY or some other small organization from around the world."

When we asked Scott Coker to respond on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour, the Strikeforce CEO channeled his inner Rodney King.

By Michael David SmithPosted: 06/18/2010 01:20 PM ET

So where does Evan Dunham fit into the UFC lightweight division, now that he has improved to 11-0 by defeating Tyson Griffin for his biggest victory to date? One UFC fighter who has fought for the lightweight belt twice believes Dunham is getting close to the top of the division. I think he's right.

Kenny Florian said this week on ESPN's MMA Live that he views Dunham as being one of the top lightweights in the sport.

By Ben FowlkesPosted: 06/18/2010 12:31 PM ET

LAS VEGAS – Court McGee and Kris McCray both knew they'd be here some day. Then again, so did hundreds of other fighters who tried out for season eleven of "The Ultimate Fighter." Many months and even a couple of losses later, it's down to just these two.

"Before I tried out I was sitting in my bathtub, just visualizing myself holding the trophy," McGee told MMA Fighting. "It was just a thought that came to me. I saw that glass trophy, me being the next Ultimate Fighter, and it was pretty powerful."

Is Renan Barao WEC's Next Superstar? Jose Aldo Thinks So

By Mike ChiappettaPosted: 06/18/2010 10:25 AM ET

Renan Barao was just a fresh-faced 18-year-old when he made his professional MMA debut in Natal, Brazil, losing by unanimous decision. Apparently, he responds well to adversity, because he has not lost since. Depending on who you talk to, Barao either has a 21-, 23- or 25-fight unbeaten streak. No matter who you talk to, or what number you believe, it's one of the most impressive current stretches in MMA.

The 23-year-old Barao finally brings that long run of success to a major promotion when he faces Anthony Leone during Sunday's WEC 49 undercard in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and many think you should mark this date on your calendar as the start of something big.

Former Bantamweight Champ Eddie Wineland Wants to Stay in the Hunt

By Matt EricksonPosted: 06/18/2010 08:17 AM ET

Ask 100 MMA fans to name the former WEC bantamweight champion from Indiana, and all 100 of them are liable to say Miguel Torres. And while the Torres response is true – and certainly understandable – Eddie Wineland might have something to say about that.

Wineland was the WEC's first champ at 135 pounds. He won the belt at WEC 20, knocking out Antonio Banuelos for the title. But that was in the WEC's pre-Zuffa era, before the big TV deal with Versus and really before "MMA" was a household term. Casual fans not really knowing him could be forgiven. Besides, he lost the belt less than a year later in his first defense at WEC 26.

But on Sunday, at WEC 49 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Wineland goes after his third straight win, and he'll do it against Will Campuzano to open the televised card on Versus – the latest step on his goal to get another crack at the title.

"You always want to be on the main card – everybody always wants to be seen," Wineland said. "But whether I'm the first fight or the last fight, as long as I'm there and I get to fight and I get that win, that's really all that matters."

By Daniel HerbertsonPosted: 06/18/2010 06:27 AM ET

K-1 President Sadaharu Tanikawa unveiled four additional matches Friday for July 5th's K-1 World MAX 70 kg Final 16 and 63 kg Japan Tournament Finals. Notable for MMA fans, Sydney Olympic wrestler Kazuyuki Miyata will by making his K-1 debut against former Japanese featherweight boxing champion and K-1 bad boy Kazuhisa Watanabe. Miyata is coming off a close split decision win over Takafumi Otsuka at DREAM.14 and is undefeated as a featherweight.

Akiyo "Wicky" Nishiura, who TKO'ed Hideo Tokoro at DREAM.14, was the preferred MMA representative but an injury sustained in that fight has kept him from making his K-1 debut.

Shohei Asahara, Toshiki Taniyama and Koya Urabe, who were all victorious in the opening round of the 63 kg tournament but failed to earn a spot in the Final 8, have been added in reserve fights.

Sengoku Raiden Championship 13: Preview and Predictions

By Daniel HerbertsonPosted: 06/17/2010 11:26 PM ET

World Victory Road's Sengoku Raiden Championship has had a three month hiatus and although their return effort lacks big names and established stars, what it does have is prospects. And some of these young fighters represent the very best of the next generation of fighters coming out Japan.

Featherweight Champion Masanori Kanehara will attempt to make his first defense against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and knockout artist Marlon Sandro in a fight which will surely make an impact on most people's rankings lists.

Along with the title fight Olympic Silver Medalist Hiroshi Izumi, Sanae Kikuta cutting over 30 lb to welterweight, Maximo Blanco, Shigeki Osawa, Ikuo Usuda and SRC's Welterweight GP all make this an unmissable card for a glimpse into the future of Japanese MMA.

After the break, predictions so good that I like to call them pre-fight results.
