Rather than getting your mother a gift she doesn’t really need or flowers that will wilt in a week, why not give her a thoughtful gift that helps others?
When you contribute £10 to FFI, we will send a personalised certificate to your mother that features our work to conserve the beautiful Flower Valley on the southernmost tip of Africa. This FFI project protects a rare ecosystem, found nowhere else on Earth, and employs local women to cultivate and sustainably harvest fynbos flowers. The flowers in Flower Valley will continue to bloom for years to come!

About the floral kingdoms of South Africa
Fauna & Flora International has been working in the Cape Agulhas region of South Africa for over ten years. Flower Valley, on the continent’s southernmost tip is an extraordinary display of flowers of all shapes, sizes and colours. These flowers together are known as the fynbos ecosystem. It is one of the most florally diverse places on the planet and faces threats from uncontrolled fires and alien invasive species.
By working with local partner, the Flower Valley Conservation Trust, we have developed a sustainable harvesting programme that unites the need to save this unique habitat with the needs of the people living on the Agulhas Plain. To this end we have helped set up the supply of fynbos to various supermarket chains as well as running an Early Learning Centre to allow working mothers to work on the fynbos project. People living in this area now have a much greater understanding of the value of the fynbos.
To further support the work of the Flower Valley Conservation Trust, you can buy sustainably harvested fynbos flowers at Marks & Spencer in the UK and Pick ‘n Pay in South Africa. Thank you for supporting rural communities in this way.
We know that the scale of global biodiversity loss can make you feel helpless sometimes, but here are five things you can do to protect the variety of life.
FFI will be highlighting a different species or habitat every month in our new Focus on section. Discover more about May's Focus on - the pygmy hippo
