FFI mourns the loss of a friend.
Fauna & Flora International was shocked and saddened to hear the news of the death of Dr Ymke Warren in Cameroon.
Ymke is a long-time friend and colleague to many of us at FFI. We knew Ymke from her time in Rwanda following the genocide, where she was an important part of the rebuilding process of that country in the mid-90’s, and played a key role with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in stabilising mountain gorilla protection at such a difficult moment in Rwanda’s history.
More recently, she has been our colleague in Cross River gorilla conservation, working with Wildlife Conservation Society in Cameroon to improve the survival prospects for Africa’s most endangered ape.
Everyone at FFI wishes to send condolences to Ymke’s family and her many friends and colleagues worldwide.
Ymke’s passion, expertise and dedication to ensuring a better future for Africa’s gorillas leaves a lasting legacy, and she will be deeply missed.
