Since 1991 Fauna & Flora International (FFI) has been working in partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), WWF and the three Protected Area Authorities of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda and Uganda through The International Gorilla Conservation Programme (IGCP) to conserve the critically endangered mountain gorilla and its habitat.

A 3 year partnership with the Humane Society International has assisted the IGCP is to carry out its activities, which include improving the livelihoods of rural communities, addressing community issues such as crop raiding management, improving monitoring activities and providing education and training to staff.

With HSI’s support, the Programme’s success is evidenced through the rising gorilla population – now numbering just over 700. However, threats to the future security of these populations are ever increasing and continued conservation efforts are vital to secure the future of the mountain gorilla and its habitat.
