Fauna & Flora International Bats are a well known symbol of Halloween, but in fact they are far from the blood-sucking evil animals they are portrayed to be. As the only true flying mammal on Earth bats occur from the Arctic to the Antarctic in many different types of habitats.

As a Halloween treat we hope these photos of Malagasy flying foxes do the trick!

The Malagasy flying fox (Pteropus rufus) is a species of bat in the Pteropodidae family. Endemic to Madagasca, its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss.
