Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is involved in the Katoomba Meeting XVII in Hanoi, Vietnam from 23-24 June.

The Katoomba Group is an international network of individuals working to promote, and improve capacity related to, markets and payments for ecosystem services (PES).

The Group serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas and strategic information about ecosystem service transactions and markets, as well as a site for collaboration between practitioners on PES projects and programmes.

FFI is assisting in organising the two-day meeting. We are focused on bringing in practitioners and assisting with outreach from the conference via the internet.

Our longstanding history in the region and our experience with Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) has enabled us to draw in key participants to enhance the discussion.

Members of FFI’s team, as well as partners from Aceh, Cambodia and Vietnam will attend the meeting and contribute to the debate over PES, and REDD in particular.

Josh Kempinski, REDD Advisor to FFI’s Vietnam Programme, explains FFI’s emerging work on REDD in Vietnam and goes into some detail on the Ulu Masen REDD project.

Here’s also a video of Joe Heffernan, FFI’s REDD Coordinator, speaking on the Katoomba meeting website about FFI’s REDD work around the region.

“The Katoomba Group has always played an important role in pushing the boundaries of the emerging ecosystem services markets. FFI is proud to bring real world models and local experience to the table through our global network of practitioners and partners,” said Joe.

“Vietnam has embraced the commercial values of the natural world and is a great place to see this conference create new synergies to further demonstrate the value of the natural world.”

In this video, the Head of Aceh Green Secretariat, FFI’s partner in Aceh, discusses the Ulu Masen REDD project and the concept of Aceh Green.
