Romania is likely to benefit from its recent accession to the European Union by undergoing rapid economic development. Yet many fear this may be to the detriment of those natural areas which are still relatively pristine and, currently lack adequate management and protection. Thanks to funding by the Mitsubishi Fund for Africa and Europe and the Association for Cultural Exchange, FFI is developing a capacity building programme for protected area practitioners in order to secure the expertise base and thus the long term conservation of Romania’s biodiversity.
