The False Claims Act's qui tam provisions cover all sorts of government fraud beyond health care and defense contractor fraud. Each federal agency's Office of Inspector General (OIG) exists to help in the fight against fraud, corruption, and abuse. But fraudulent schemes are limitless and can cover HUD fraud (including section 8 fraud), HUD mortgage fraud, GSA fraud, Stark Law anti-kickback fraud, disaster assistance loan fraud, agricultural subsidy fraud, and federal grant fraud. Thus, the False Claims Act incentivizes and enlists the support of whistleblowers across the nation who have uncovered or witnessed a government fraud in a wide variety of areas that result in the government being billed and overcharged for goods or services.
