The Germanisches Nationalmuseum
The Germanisches Nationalmuseum is one of Europe's largest and greatest museums.
Its incomparable stores of exceptional art and artisanship afford a panoramic overview of the cultural history of German-speaking central Europe.
Experience for yourself, in the former imperial city of Nuremberg, the remarkable range and diversity of German art and culture!
Enjoy a fascinating voyage through history, from hand axes of Neolithic times to the arts and culture of the present day.
The enigmatic 3000-year-old golden headdress of a Bronze Age priest or wise man, the gem-studded eagle fibula from the Age of Migration or the pilgrim's cloak worn by the Nuremberg patrician Stephan Praun are artefacts which never lose their magical allure. The golden armlet or »armilla« of Emperor Barbarossa and Martin Behaim's famous globe, the earliest surviving depiction of the earth as a sphere, or Carl Spitzweg's »Poor Poet« and Ernst Ludwig's Expressionist self-portrait as a drunkard are universally regarded as key works of their eras.
The magnificent Schüsselfelder Ship, the sculpture of Veit Stoss and Tilman Riemenschneider and the only seven paintings by Albrecht Dürer still to be found in Nuremberg are stunning highlights of the art of the German world ca 1500.
Of particular appeal to visitors of all ages are the imposing suits of armor in the collection of historical weapons and armor, the toy collection with its rare and wonderful doll houses and one of the world's foremost collections of historical musical instruments. The chronological spectrum of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum extends all the way to the present.
Here, not only the innovative integrated presentation of art and design but also the art of the former GDR warrant special attention.
Individual aspects of German cultural history are explored and elucidated in frequent special exhibitions. A current calendar of events is available online and over the GNM information hotline. SCHLOSS NEUNHOF
Schloss Neunhof (not far from Kraftshof) is one of the best-preserved patrician estate houses in the vicinity. Built in 1480, the fortified country manor with its barbican, drawbridge and moat, its outbuildings and the authentically recreated baroque gardens constitutes an unusually picturesque historic ensemble. Within the house, the original furnishings of the 16th to 19th century are unusually well preserved.

KAISERBURG MUSEUM
In the so-called »Kemenate« of Nuremberg's Imperial Castle, the GNM documents the castle's historical role.
