The word is out: Apple is hosting a media event on Wednesday, October 20th. The invitation features a a big cat -- looks like a lion to us, which means if you had "Mac OS X 10.7 Lion" in the betting pool, congratulations -- peeking out from behind a metallic Apple logo and the phrase, "Back to the Mac." We're going to don our Carnac outfit and predict that Apple will be talking about the next iteration of Mac OS X.
Of course, we'll have full coverage. See you then.

Of course they are going to do this on the 20th. How did I know? Because I am going down to Portland (from Seattle) on the 17th to get a bunch of new equipment. So of course they would be announcing a bunch of new things less than a week later. Thanks for thinking of me, Apple ;-)

I reckon most of us had guessed Lion hadn't we? They've done most of the significant other big cats.

I was expecting them to be using 'Garfield'

OSX 10.7 Garfield... ROFL

If Microsoft was the one using a feline codename for Windows, then "Garfield" would be appropriate for how bloated it is.

That would actually help with the transition to their next line of presidential code names. OS 10.8 will be "Chester A. Arthur"

No. It'll be Snow Lion. :-)
Hey, when does the pool for naming 10.8 start?

Then again, maybe not. Can't risk offending the Chinese.

That background so reminds me of the new Magic Trackpad.

Does the promo image herald some sort of 3D-type UI?

No but there will be an AppStore for the Mac OS and a new version of iLife.
