Kim Kardashian Goes To Fashion Shows To ‘Work’

Do we love Kim Kardashian? Yes. Do we think she knows what she’s talking about nine times out of ten? Well …

In a story published in today’s issue of Women’s Wear Daily, which we will remind you is known around the world as “The Retailers’ Daily Newspaper,” Kardashian says that as much as she loves fashion, she doesn’t just go to runway shows to sit in the front row and oogle garments. She’s doing actual work, people.

“We go [to fashion shows] obviously for the fun of it and for that whole experience, but we’re there as buyers more so than anything else. So we just try and find — you know, each of our stores have different customers, so we kind of look — we’ll know if we see certain pieces: ‘That would be good for the Miami store, now the New York store, or [the] Calabasas [Calif. store].’ ”

Real talk. Problem is — and most retailers know this — buying is not a piecemeal operation, even if the stores you’re buying for are relatively small like the Kardashian family’s DASH boutiques.

Luckily, Kim’s not the one running the business, but she is still making gobs and gobs of money. The reality TV star announced in the same profile that she and her sisters are launching a rather comprehensive lifestyle brand to complement their already extensive beauty and accessories outreach.

“It will consist of swimwear, lingerie, ready-to-wear, denim, even a home line,” Kardashian said of the forthcoming fashion collection.

It’s an ambitious project, to be sure, but Kardashian doesn’t seem daunted by the enormity of what she’s trying to do (and we’re going to hazard the guess that that’s because someone else will actually being doing the calculus that allows this to happen). She talks about building an “empire” as though it’s as easy as buying a pair of shoes.

And maybe for people who have her kind of starpower, and who live in a world of “reality” that’s made especially for television, it really is.
