Fox News’ Red Eye Gives Keith Olbermann Giddiest Goodbye Yet

The news of Keith Olbermann’s suspension at MSNBC has been met in varying company with visceral reactions anywhere between righteous indignation and uncontrollable glee. The conservative Twitter masses put up some strong competition to beat on the “glee” end of the spectrum, but the crew of Fox News’ Red Eye definitively take the award for most scathing report on the matter while defending Olbermann’s right to donate to political campaigns.

Host Greg Gutfeld recounts the story of how “public access network MSNBC” canceled Olbermann’s program, “Countdown with Captain Crazypants,” and highlights possible new hosts for the 8pm hour, including a My Little Pony figure, a rock formation, and Betty White. He also showcased a major exclusive interview with Olbermann one of those hand dryers in public bathrooms on the subject.

As ruthless as his humor was to the network, Gutfeld posed the question to his panel in a was supportive of Olbermann, wondering what about a “consistent” ideologue behaving in a politically predictable way merits dismissal. “Everyone knows that hes a pinko communist, so why does it matter?” Gutfeld asked his guests. Panelist Terry Schappert saw no problem with his donations, given Countdown’s position as “the highest rated show on an irrelevant network,” and suggested Olbermann donate to NAMBLA. Anna Gilligan, who was offended at someone else assuming the “pinko communist” title, advised Red Eye to “take a page from [MSNBC's] book” and show “footage of Andy [Levy] streaking.” There wasn’t a clear explanation of how one idea followed from the other there, but it seemed worth a shot for the ratings.

As loathsome as Keith is, the reason for his dismissal was stupid. It was as if they were saying “Oh, no. By contributing to the Dems, now people won’t think you’re unbiased.” Are you kidding me?

Pretty tame by Red Eye standards.

Agreed. Phil Griffin must be pretty clueless if he thinks he can run a DNC disinformation campaign every night on TV, and then convince anyone that he actually wants non-partisan hosts by dishing out this slap on the wrist. Even by the admittedly low standards of the progressive movement, this move makes no sense.

Yeah agreed , but this was moreover an excuse to finally rid the monkey off Griffin’s back –which is Keith Olbermann.

Keith once said ” Phil Griffin THINKS he’s my boss”.

Keith has a looping track record of , keeping his employers hostage.

There is more to this saga , than what appears on the surface .

NONE OF US really know what happened here yet !!

At one extreme, this could be a publicity stunt. Maybe Keith is just on vacation?
At the other extreme, Olbermann could be permanently fired. If this is the case, Comcast executives certainly are the ones who made it happen, not Phil Griffin who, as Keith put it, controls nothing.
Or maybe it’s somewhere in between?

It is rare that I get humor, my dad said I was born without a funny bone. But I try and sometimes I find humor in Red Eye. That of fatigue makes me giddy. I agree with “writer” did they not know that Olbermann was a democrat, it is hard to imagine that over the years Keith never gave to a candidate.

It come’s down to appearance. Also, NBC seems to find difficulty with their very unbiased sister network. Griffin wanted to look strong, that they would bust someone’s chops as opposed to FOXNEWS that hasn’t the same mandate of their talent. Although April 15 Hannity’s show was canceled from a teaparty event it blurred the issue and Hannity was also promoting his book etc.

I watched a bit of Maddow last night, and she addressed Keith’s suspension, oops NO, she addressed FOXNEWS at nauseam, showing all their questionable talent, money and contributors. How the hell does MSNBC always go to FOXNEWS before addressing their own misdeeds, Ms Maddow stick is getting really old.

Perhaps we should have a campaign to watch COUNTDOWN while Keith is gone, increasing number’s for anyone but Keith. Frankly I doubt he will return. There is more to this fable.

Hannity had to cancel because the teaparty was selling tickets for the event!

Wonder if Olbermann is staying in his bathtub?

Bottom line is both companies have two very different sets of rules with it comes to political donations and if the roles were reversed, this discussion would go in a very different direction. There would be outcries of journalistic integrity because one has a policy that says “NO” and the other has a policy that says “policy? what’s that?”.

Why anyone here bothers to try and discuss this kind of stuff is beyond comprehension. Less that 5% of the regular posters here have an objective viewpoint, while the rest are so far in one direction or another, if it were boat it would be rocking port to starboard to port to starboard to port to starboard, etc.

I loathe the mullahs running Iran and wouldn’t mind seeing any number of things done to them: finding out why pissing off the Israelis is a mistake, hung from lampposts after a popular uprising, given nuclear weapons the hard way… but sending them Olbermann and Grayson? Some things just go too far beyond the pale.

haha yea what olberman donated to the democrats was merely chump change compared to the cash fox news subsidizes the republican party with. What a bunch of fake douch bags. yea his what…. $6000 in donations are equal to say….well how about the 1 million dollar contribution murdock gave to the republican governors. god only knows how much they anonymously funnel into those dick army astroturfers. Msnbc only wishes it had the infrastructure of the faux news propaganda machine

msnbc should fire Ed Schultz for being such an angry, name calling dolt. And fire Chris Matthews for being an idiotic, imbecilic, moronic ignoramus about every subject he has ever tried to cover on his show. As for Mr. Maddow and Ms. O’Donnell, I never watch them so I don’t really care either way. But, please msnbc, bring old Keithy, the goofy, doofy, whacked out dunderhead back so us sane people can have that hour of continuous laughs. We need to be able to laugh at someone these days, what with all the wars, world hunger, natural disasters, and such and old Keithy is just plain fun to laugh at. Please, please bring him back. Us Conservatives need the quack!

    This could be a ploy;

I think it could all be fake.

    1. This is the week that Olbermann just came out with a book. What a better way to make his book successful and a darling to the Left than to be suspended for defending Democrats and then his cohorts demonizing Fox

    2. This would move the MSM to talk about Olbermann instead of the election.

    3. Olbermann was losing credibility with the Left and this could garner him more positive media and make him a hero to the Left who see this as a ‘travesty’ and injustice.

    4. I also believe this could’ve been a ploy to get more Lefties who have left MSNBC to come back to him after they left him for the Daily Show.

    5. this would get him more sympathy after his public fight with Jon Stewart.

So maybe this was all a ploy and is fake.

Calling msnbc’s election night coverage a laughing stock doesn’t do justice to just how horrible it was. Every other network were scratching their heads thinking, “wtf??” It was complete amateur hour, and I’m guessing that nbc has finally said, “enough”, regarding baby cable. Look for Schultz to depart soon, and for Maddow to ease up a bit. People can point to Fox and say that they’re partisan, but their two partisans, Beck and Hannity, aren’t the mean, nasty people like you find on msnbc, people you think are going to have a meltdown any minute. I believe that the people at nbc grew tired of being associated with the joke of cable news.

CNN might be dumb and with Anderson360’s ‘teabagger’ meme, outright stupid. But MessNBC is a nasty collection of borderline personality disorder types about 90% of the sane American populace would avoid at all cost in their daily lives. So why tune these clowns in at night? Mr. Maddow & Ms. O’Donnell aren’t going to convince anyone even though Larry and Moe are entertaining in their duncehood. But election night showed that MessNBC ain’t ever gonna be ready for prime time or any other time unless they get a different set of left-wing blowhards—maybe one’s who don’t make the Daily Show look like the sane place to get political news.

Bret Baier and Shep are better than Brian Williams and Couric. Sawyer isn’t as bad, but leans portside. FNC outdrew ALL the nets on 11/2 and if the nets don’t get rid of Upchuck Todd and other ninnies, that’s likely to recur with alarming regularity. And Megyn Kelly was in one of DC’s top law firms. She could have made almost as much doing legal work. I’m glad she chose to go public!!!

Murdoch is not a journalist, a news anchor, or the host of a news program. He does not need to pretend to be impartial. Likewise, the chairman of General Electric can donate to anyone he likes. And maybe even the president of NBC, but probably not the president of NBC News.

This cashiering of Mr. Olbermann should serve as caution to the rest of the MSNBC playpen. A new sheriff is about to come to town and its name is Comcast. Unlike GE, Comcast will want to see this little pesky thing called a profit. If Playpen MSNBC fails to produce, Comcast will be making additional changes to its lineup.

Rand Paul: GOP Can Compromise By Cutting Spending From Defense Budget

This morning on ABC's This Week, host Christiane Amanpour interviewed the new Senator-elect from Kentucky, Rand Paul, about his plans once he takes office. In a departure from the Republican party line, however, he said he believes cutting spending from defense is a viable option for helping to reduce the national debt.

Obama On 60 Minutes: “Leadership Isn’t Just Legislation”

    video

President Obama taped an interview with Steve Kroft for tonight's 60 Minutes before departing for India. In it he tells Kroft that one of the reasons the voters have responded they way they they did on Tuesday was because his administration didn't properly communicate (over about a gazillion interviews) what they were doing and that "leadership isn’t just legislation."
