Umbrella Auto Design tricks out the Nissan GT-R's cockpit

If the Nissan GT-R is going to seriously take on the Porsche 911, it's going to need to do a bit better on the interior fit and finish. Nissan's own people realized that much when they launched the Egoist edition of the new GT-R, but what if you've already got your Godzilla in the driveway? What are you to do then?
Turn to Umbrella Auto Design, that's what. The Seattle-based tuners have announced an aftermarket retrofit for the GT-R's interior that swathes the entire cabin – seats, dashboard, console, instrument binnacle, steering wheel, door panels, shift levers, etc. in luxe and racy black ultra-suede with silver diamond quilting and top-stitch. They've even repainted the plastics in black to match. Looks pretty slick, and they can reportedly carry it out on any GT-R in about three weeks. Check it out in the gallery below.

Now the interior looks halfway decent. The suede isn't my cup of tea, though.

I've driven both the GT-R and 997 Turbo and I think what the GT-R needs more than anything is for the driver to "feel" the road more and thus increase driver involvement. The GT-R drives very well but there is just a detachment you don't feel with the 911 (which is why I think a lot of reviewers say it feels robot-like or like a video game).
Any improvements on the interior are a plus but if I had to choose between the two it wouldn't come down to the interior- but the driving exerience (versus the lap times, etc).

That's probably only the case at slower speeds because all the reviews
I've seen including top gear, fifth gear, autocar, and motortrend say
that the car feels surprisingly analog, despite the video game- like
layout of the dash

The newer 911 Turbos feel about a million times better than the GTR, in every way.

I could very well be wrong considering my knowledge of mechanics is far from great, but from what I do know or heard, the 911 has really good steering feel due to its light front end, which is obviously because of the rear engine layout. Of course, I'm sure there are other reasons behind it too, but the GTR is pretty overweight in my opinion. It'd be nice if they could shed down some weight on that thing, and then it might have better steering feel as well.
And I agree, from most of what I read about the GTR, it is lacking the feel, but I think that's also due to the extent to which the AWD system intervenes.

Good to see an interior done tastefully. I wish there were more interior packages/modifications that consisted of more than racing seats and neon lights.

Wow. I was beginning to think that there were no aftermarket interior folks with any taste at all. Kudos to Umbrella Auto Design for a great looking and tasteful retrofit. If I lived closer I'd have them do suade inserts and a steering wheel for my Vantage.

Does it add some weight ? Probably , so no thanks the interior is fine stock , now i will take that money and mod the vr38dett to rape some porsche and other supercar , that what the GT-R is all about .

You spend $85,000 for a car and then take it in to replace the upholstery? For that money, there are definitely cars that have both performance and upholstery.

There's nothing that has the level of performance of a GT-R and as refined of an interior as the one pictured above for that money. Prove me wrong.
