Bill Maher Criticizes the Rally to Restore Sanity: 'You Might as Well Make It About Something' (VIDEO)

Bill Maher was apparently not a fan of the Rally To Restore Sanity and/or Fear. On Real Time With Bill Maher (Friday, 8 PM ET on HBO), Maher criticized the event, which was put on by Comedy Central personalities Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, for its lack of purpose.
"If you are going to have a rally in which hundreds of thousands of people show up, you might as well make it about something," Maher said.
Maher also agreed with the recently-suspended-from MSNBC Keith Olbermann, who's been upset that Stewart drew the equivalency between the political commentators at Fox News and at MSNBC.
"Keith Olbermann is right when he says he's not the equivalent of Glenn Beck," Maher explained. "One reports facts, and the other is very close to playing with his poop."
Contrary to Maher's implication, we've watched enough Glenn Beck to be able to state with a high degree of certainty that he's never come anywhere close to feces-play on his show. However, given Beck's highly unorthodox use of props, we fear Maher may have just given him a new idea.

Bill Maher is right about this. The number of people I know who went astonished me. (I live in the nyc area 4 hours away but I know people who came long distances to go too.) Everyone of them came because they thought it was important to show the numbers of progressives in this country and to show that the Tea Party people who want to hold progress back are in the minority. That the extremist right is extremist and not representative of most people in this country. (Even my life-long Republican parents have been dismayed by how far to the right the party has become to cater to a very vocal minority.)
To go to all the trouble and expensive of getting to Washington, DC and the long waits to get into the city on the Metro (no one I know could get a hotel in DC proper even weeks before) only to find that they were being totally marginalized by the tepid labels put on the rally by Stewart and then by newscasters whose reporting generally drained it of all meaning was a big let down after the rally. (Although they enjoyed it - especially gathering with so many kindred spirits.)
