Not being a TCGer, I never followed it too closely. The only time I really looked into the Warcraft trading cards was several months back when they were being promoted heavily on the launcher. At that time, Cryptozoic's minimalistic website just talked about how they had obtained rights to the TCG and were supporting brick and mortar card shops by selling the cards exclusively through them. Thus, they're not available online from Cryptozoic directly or from the Blizzard Store. The one store I know of in town didn't seem to sell anything online, but I guess I didn't seek out stores in other cities.
My real interest would be the loot cards, but I'm a sucker for the RNG and wouldn't feel right buying the cards straight up. Yeah, I'm a slave to the system and to human psychology.

Nov 29th 2010 7:41PM I agree with elvendude. Paying for in-game items that meaningfully change the game or give stats etc.. will be the end of WoW as we know it. Period.
Also, Jack, if you want to donate to Make a Wish, that's awesome. Blizzard has been very up front about the specifics of what is and is not going to charity (which is how you are able to state the facts), unlike a great number of organizations out there. Since most people are buying the pets whether or not a donation is made, it is very nice to see Blizzard donating some of the proceeds to the charity.
Is Blizzard wealthy enough to make large, independent donations to whatever charity they want at any time? Sure. Could Blizzard sell the pets and not give any donations to any charity? Sure. But instead, they've created a program that falls somewhere nicely inbetween with the added benefit of giving players the satisfaction that their purchase helped make a difference.

Nov 29th 2010 6:59PM Is Cryptozoic still only selling these in physical stores? I understand and applaud the desire to support tabletop gaming stores, but I'd be more likely to buy cards if I could do so online.

I agree. WoW is an MMORPG, therefore it will have a grind component to it. However, I think they've done a good job of reducing the grind (especially compared to many MMOs) and making the leveling experience more dynamic and rewarding. The quest system is key to that, and the texts really help maximize the pleasure:chore ratio.

Nov 29th 2010 12:29PM Is that real math or just a setup for the punchline at the end? I got a much higher sense of people starting after 4.03a, but by no means did I do any counting. On one hand, I think it's a shame more people didn't pay attention sooner, but on the other hand I'm glad that the richer quest texts are encouraging people to get a little more into it.

Nov 29th 2010 9:22AM I feel bad for pouncing on this, because I'm sure you didn't mean it like this... but.. you get more lore and story from the scrolling text than the instant text?
It took me a while to realize you could turn on instant text. I never wanted to skip the text, but I read faster than it scrolled too.

Nov 29th 2010 8:57AM I liked the JOB OPPORTUNITY: Culling the Competition quest in Searing Gorge. A lot of the quests there with the Thorium Brotherhood had pretty humorous texts, but this one had a particularly unhelpful bit of text with it:
"Return to Taskmaster Scrange when your clothes are bloody enough. You'll know when they're bloody enough so don't ask."
Of course, once you accept the quest, you see that you've killed 0/15, so you know how far you have to go.

Nov 29th 2010 8:40AM I almost always read the quest text. If it seems to be a particularly generic quest and I'm in a hurry for whatever reason, I'll sometimes skim.
I always feel bad and pressured when I'm questing with a group of friends though. When it comes time to turn in quests or pick up new quests, I'm always left standing next to the NPC while the rest of my party moves on to the next NPC... or to the edge of town... or wherever they're headed next. I know that I'm not the world's fastest reader, but I'm far from its slowest either. I find myself often turning quests in, picking up new ones, and putting someone in the party on follow while I read on the way to the quest areas.
