Operation Flashpoint: Red River trailer fights in Tajikistan

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising was not a very well-received game. Despite having a lot of high-concept promise, it failed to deliver on its potential. Now the game is receiving an expansion pack that will hopefully put right what didn't quite fly last time. Red River is an expansion that takes place in the embattled country of Tajikistan, and it pits the forces of the US military against both insurgents and the grand Chinese army. This trailer claims to offer a glimpse into the gameplay of the game, but it's really more of a story trailer. There is a little bit of gameplay in the mix, but not really anything from the player's point of view.

Operation Flashpoint trailer teases at a new expansion

While the Operation Flashpoint series is now out of the original developer's hands, Codemasters wants to keep the series going strong. The latest addition to this is the Red River expansion pack, and this trailer aims to get you excited for it. It's a really slick, beautiful trailer that portrays a group of soldiers as they get ready for a hot drop into contested territory. While it's certainly pleasing to watch, there's not really a whole lot of information. There doesn't need to be, though, as everything in this trailer is perfectly calculated to send the military or gun fan wild.

Combat Arms trailers show off yet more armory (and map) additions

More trailers from the free-to-play FPS Combat Arms! This time they are for a new map and three new weapons. The new map is Ghost Town, an abandoned-looking Eastern European town, and both the flythrough and weapon videos give a good idea of the action that will take place on the map.. The three new weapons are a reworked P90 and two versions of the same assault rifle (XK-8). All of the weapons are silenced, which gives off that distinct fwip noise gamers love to hear so much. In terms of excitement, however, these trailers are fairly standard and not that thrilling or engaging.

Homefront developer diary delves into Korean invasion of America

It seems that America being threatened is the new theme of the modern FPS. Games like Modern Warfare pit us against everyone from Arabs to Russians to the Chinese and everything in-between. It appears that the newest bogeyman is North Korea, as shown by this trailer for the upcoming Homefront. Overseen by the co-writer of classics such as of Red Dawn, Homefront establishes that North Korea has essentially annexed Southeast Asia and is making its move on the US. This trailer delves into the reactions that the developers intend to get out of the players with the setting, as well as taking a careful dig at Modern Warfare (fighting through slums and escaping in a helicopter sounds awfully familiar...).

Section 8 Prejudice trailers smash swarming enemies around

It's time for more trailers for Section 8 Prejudice, and these continue to impress us as much as the previous ones. The first, above, details the intricacies of the Swarm gameplay mode, which pits you and a small team of friends against larger and larger waves of bots. It has a developer commentary, as most gameplay videos do, and gives a good walkthrough of both the new mode as well as all the additions to the Section 8 formula that Prejudice is bringing to the table.

The other two videos, after the cut, elaborate on two things briefly shown in the Swarm trailer: fatalities and overdrive. Fatalities are neat animations that play when you kill an enemy in melee, and overdrive is the incredibly fast sprit that can take out other enemies if you hit them head on. While fatalities are more of a show thing, overdrives are an important part of Section 8 and were that way in the original game as well.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution trailer slices and dices with elbow blades

Deus Ex is one of our favorite games of all time, and the latest installment (Human Revolution) looks to be a worthy addition to the series. This trailer only furthers this impression, with a solid collection of gameplay footage, albeit in a chopped together and mostly cinematic fashion. It shows off plenty of the things we'd want in a Deus Ex game: biomods, hacking, proper inventory space, and cool futuristic weaponry. There's also some awesome animations thrown in as well, such as the ground slams and elbow blade finishers. Our only complaint is, funnily enough, just how overpowering the orange coloration is, as it obscures the action.

Bulletstorm trailer gets stylish and gory

It's been a while since our last hyper-gory and entertaining Bulletstorm trailer, so we've got to watch this newest one from Epic. It's a quick montage of the gameplay we've seen before. Plenty of energy whips, kicking, explosions, and creative weapons. There is, however, nothing new in this trailer. If you've seen the developer commentary videos, you've got a good idea of what to expect from this one, but with less detail. It's still pretty stunning, so if you want to see some highly-rendered body parts, this is the video for you!

Review: The Ball

Tripwire is rapidly becoming known as a publisher of former mods, and their latest release falls straight in line with that perception. The Ball, a former Unreal Tournament 3 mod that was a finalist in Make Something Unreal, has finally be released on Steam as a stand-alone project. While it's a fun, visually stunning, and relaxing game, it suffers from a number of problems that keep it from rising above its mod roots. Make no mistake: this is a fantastic indie game that many can enjoy. There's just a number of issues that keep it from achieving the heights that it aspires to.

Combat Arms trailers show off two new weapons

While Combat Arms trailers are alright, they aren't really all that exciting. Only the new game mode trailers seem interesting, as flythroughs and weapon trailers are just straightforward and relatively boring. These two trailers for Combat Arms show off new weapons: M1866 and the MG21E. The former is a high-powered sniper rifle, while the latter is a squad light machine-gun. Both trailers show off the weapons in the zombie mode, as opposed to regular mode, but we're sure it has much the same effect on actual people.

Guide to TF2 2010 Scarechievements

We are writing this guide from inside a padded cell, as last year's TF2 Halloween update drove us positively insane. After all, with all the spooky ghosts, draculas, exploding pumpkins, and horrifying masks, we just couldn't handle it anymore. We assure you, though, that our love for TF2 is as pure as our hair is white. From being spooked! While you may dismiss such supernatural notions, we have a list of tasks for you that we know will prove the existence of something beyond our realm. Such things as crazed Horsemenn, spooky gifts, and even a mask of Saxton Hale!
