WoW.com's new raid guides are intended to make information about raiding faster and easier to find. You will be able to read through choice raid information about each encounter, like general strategies and tank tips. Just as importantly, we'll continue to collect the best available resources across the WoW community to help make sure your raid has everything you need to succeed.

While I acknowledge that there are guilds still struggling their way through normal (with a 20% zone buff, yikes!), these guides either briefly mention or exclude information on the heroic difficulty, which makes me a sad panda. :(
Galestrom Jun 3rd 2010 11:18AM
Unfortunately, 20% buffs do not apply to mental cognition.

Hey... we're not all uber you know.
Seriously though, I'm trying and I know my raid group is - admittedly we're on one of the least progressed EU realms - but seeing as this is the first current raid tier we've been able to actually work at (ToC was old by the time we hit 80) I think we'll end up doing fine if a little later then everyone else.

Also, many guilds are bringing players who might not be as geared as they could be, so the 20% buff helps bridge that gap (still, not everything is about DPS/healing/tank health).
And thanks for the resource, WoW.com. Having everything in one place is always a good thing.

I should clarify my position a bit before the pitchforks and torches reach me. I have no problem with the normal mode strategies being consolidated and posted. That's very helpful. However, with the growing number of groups who have cleared the raid, I don't see why the heroic mode information could not have been included as well.

How dare WOW.com aim their guides at the majority of the playerbase who are still working their way through ICC. Geez, if people haven't one-shotted the lich king by now then they are obviously scrubs. At least 85% of the player base has prolly soloed him already. Get with the times Wow.com. Your readers are the most elite, hardcore, intellectual, and aestetically pleasing people in the world.

Wow I read that wrong at first.
Thank god it didn't say 'into'
Gosh.
Vaylie Jun 3rd 2010 12:10PM
Yeah, I completely read that as 'into' as well. D: It was the most horrifying mental image ever.

"Why didn't anyone tell us a raid came out 7 months ago? Does it have any changes that effect classes in Cataclysm?"
N-train Jun 3rd 2010 11:41AM
Not all guilds who haven't cleared normal are crappy or incompetant, though. My strict 10m guild only raids 2 days a week, usually no more than 7 hours total...
That means it usually takes 4.5 hours of that time to get to two or three wings (though the buff is helping cut down the time), then all of the next day to faceroll or down ending bosses and such. My guild hasn't downed Sindragosa yet because there simply isn't enough time in our casual raid schedule to down farm content and still have time to work on her, let alone down everything to get to LK. If we ever want to put serious time on those bosses, we have to use a raid extension, which cuts out the loot of 10 bosses. It has nothing to do with skill or competence.
So you probably ought not assume that all guilds who are going to find this information useful are "struggling" or full of "baddies".
N-train Jun 3rd 2010 11:44AM
That was supposed to go to Travieso and company. D'oh!
Dwuffy Jun 3rd 2010 11:44AM
To everyone being snarky: You have to start somewhere. By starting with ICC guides, they can figure out what format works best for them. Working out those details ahead of time will make the Cataclysm guides better and let them publish them a little bit faster :)
So far looks good. I like that you broke out the different roles and that you link to other guides from other websites.

^ this!

Breaking it out into roles is wonderful and something I wish all guides would do.
Sometimes you just want to know what your specific job is, but you have to wade through every little thing everyone else is doing in order to find it. (Sure, it's good to know all the mechanics of the fight, too...it just gets confusing when you're deluged with information)

Personally I think these are some of the nicest guide videos I've seen. Highlighting the Tooltips is nice, they're clearly read, and I honestly laughed when describing releasing on the Lich King at 10%... LOL
Joe Jun 4th 2010 1:25AM
Kinda dissapointed. When I read the front page on this I was excited because I thought they meant video guides. I;m a very visual person when it comes to raids, I need to be able to see what it is there writing about to be able to understand it fully. They did a wonderful job on the Lich king video, why they wouldn't extend that to the other bosses confuses me. Please, make videos as well as descriptions.
