Of Course There Was A Touchdown In The East End Zone At Wrigley (Video)

After all the hand-wringing over the “one end zone” rule for the Northwestern-Illinois game at Wrigley Field today, was there any question we’d see a score in the zone that wasn’t supposed to be in use? Of course not. The east end zone was banned – except for punt returns, defensive touchdowns, and safeties. Before the end of the first quarter, we got one of the above.
The setup: Illinois tried some trickery, with quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase pitching the ball back to receiver Eddie McGee, who attempted a pass. The pass went right into the hands of Northwestern’s Brian Peters, who promptly took it into the end zone the teams jumped through hoops to avoid using.
We have to say, though – that end zone is awfully close to the wall. Peters was tackled by his teammates in celebration in the end zone, and it was hard not to get the slightest bit worried something would go wrong.
