Cirie's 'Survivor' Blog: The Gloves Are Off

by Cirie Fields, posted Nov 19th 2010 5:19PM

Well guys, the gloves are off and now it gets interesting. Who would have thunk Holly, the lady who wanted to quit, is now the master mind!!! She has an extremely valid argument-- anyone with as much power as it appears that Brenda and Sash have should be public enemy number one and marked for elimination!

Who knew that you could surf a volcano? Not for nothing, but after 25 days in the game of 'Survivor,' the reward could have been bum piggyback rides and Skittles-- just the break in the monotony of camp life would be enough to make a grown man cry!

Can someone pry Chase's head from Brenda's ass? I mean damn, they don't even have a showmance and she has him on lock?

The Show Girl's Got Scoop on 'Top Chef All Stars,' 'The Fran Drescher Tawk Show' & 'Glory Daze' (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 19th 2010 10:00AM

I seriously cannot wait for 'Top Chef All Stars.' Seeing cheftestants from seasons past, going head-to-head to prove they deserved to win is my idea of good TV. Add new judge Anthony Bourdain to that equation and I'm practically giddy. I caught up with Tony and head judge Tom Colicchio to find out who's changed the most, and who they'd want to hang out with outside of the show.

Plus, fans of 'The Nanny' can stop watching their box sets on a loop -- Fran Drescher is back on TV with a new daytime talk show. Excuse me, tawk show. So who's her dream guest? Well let's just say she's aiming pretty high ...

I also get totally '80s with the stars of 'Glory Daze.' What's their stance on the bright clothes and crazy hairstyles? And what would their characters' '80s theme songs be? Yep, making people sing on the spot is never not entertaining.

Note to the Networks: William and Kate Won't Be As Big as Chuck and Di

by Joel Keller, posted Nov 18th 2010 5:30PM

Prince William and Kate Middleton in their first interview after announcing their engagement
As the morning news shows breathlessly came on the air Tuesday morning with their "Breaking News" about the engagement of England's Prince William to his long-time girlfriend, Kate Middleton, I got an eerie feeling. I flashed back to 1981, when the engagement of William's parents, Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, sent shock waves throughout both the US and the UK.

I was only ten years old at the time, but it's not hard to recall how captivated the US was by the couple, and by the prospects of viewing a royal wedding on live television. The country was going through a rough time; a divisive president was in the White House, the country was in the throes of a recession, and the country was under constant threat of attack.

Sound like a familiar scenario? It does to the news divisions of the various broadcast networks, because they're hoping against hope that the William/Kate wedding will be as big or bigger than the Charles/Di wedding, which drew an estimated 750 million viewers worldwide. "I think this (wedding's audience) is going to be close to (the Charles/Di audience). Maybe bigger," 'Good Morning America' executive producer Jim Murphy told the New York Post yesterday.

But it's not 1981 anymore. Which makes me wonder if the network's overheated coverage of this engagement is just an exercise in wishful thinking on their part.

Alec Baldwin, WegmansWhat happens when you pair one of the best actors on TV and quite possibly one of the greatest supermarkets in America? These fantastic commercials.

Alec Baldwin has teamed up with Wegmans for a series of holiday commercials. If you're not lucky enough to have ever been to Wegmans, well, I'm sorry for you. Wegmans has locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and upstate New York. It's like Whole Foods ... but cheaper and better.

Those of you who have never been to a Wegmans can't begin to understand why its customers adore the store. Perhaps a road trip is in order for you? After all, don't you want to go to a supermarket that has salad bars, sushi, famous sandwiches, a full kitchen and in some cases a bar!?

Elmo's Best Moments: Celebrating 25 Years of the Furry Red Monster

by Rich Keller, posted Nov 18th 2010 11:40AM

Elmo was born 25 years ago thanks to the puppetry of Kevin Clash.November 18, 1985 was a day that changed children's television. It was on this day that Elmo, the furry red monster of 'Sesame Street,' came into his own, thanks to puppeteer Kevin Clash.

An extra for years, voiced on occasion by folks like Carol Spinney (Big Bird) and Richard Hunt (Scooter from 'The Muppet Show'), Clash turned the very minor character into a 3 1/2-year-old mainstay that, depending on your feelings, transformed 'Sesame Street' in a good or bad way.

Since his introduction to 'Sesame Street,' Elmo has become the face of the four-decade old series, appearing on talk shows, primetime series, his own movie ('Elmo in Grouchland') and on the toy shelves as Tickle Me Elmo. He even has his own 15-minute show-within-a-show on 'Sesame Street' titled 'Elmo's World.'

Are Tea Partiers Gaming the Vote for Bristol Palin on 'Dancing With the Stars'?

by Gary Susman, posted Nov 17th 2010 11:00PM

Bristol Palin on 'Dancing With the Stars'There's been a lot of conspiracy theorizing about Bristol Palin's survival on 'Dancing With the Stars,' even after so many clearly stronger competitors have been eliminated.

The prevailing theory is that Tea Partiers, rallying around a mission they've dubbed 'Operation Bristol,' are gaming the voting system and favoring Palin -- not for her ballroom skills but because they're political supporters of her mother, Sarah Palin. It's a theory that's been cited not just by industry observers at outlets like TV Squad or The Hollywood Reporter, but also by the show's executive producer, Conrad Green. It even got an airing from ABC's Jimmy Kimmel. During his post-show interview with Brandy and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who were shockingly voted off on Tuesday despite having earned a perfect score from the judges on Monday, Kimmel asked the pair, "Do you believe there is an organized tea party voting bloc? Maksim, you're from Russia, right, you know about these blocs and this sort of thing."

Now, women's site Jezebel claims to have evidence that conservatives are exploiting a loophole in ABC's e-mail voting system to cast extra votes for Palin. Jezebel's evidence, however, is far from conclusive.

Matt Barr On His 'Hellcats' Character, Dan: 'He's a Good Ol' Salt-of-the-Earth Type of Guy'

by Jean Bentley, posted Nov 17th 2010 5:35PM

Matt Barr on 'Hellcats'As Dan, the everyman BFF of cheerleader Marti on The CW's 'Hellcats,' Matt Barr is finally playing a character his mother approves of.

After a stint on 'One Tree Hill' playing an attempted rapist who holds two high school girls hostage on prom night, Barr's family is happy to watch him play a normal character again. "My family likes 'Hellcats,'" Barr said when he phoned TV Squad last week during a break from filming his hit show. "They're like 'Oh, we can actually watch you.'"

Far from the heavy issues plaguing 'OTH''s "psycho" Derek, Dan's major problems on 'Hellcats' are mostly of the girl-related variety. Stuck in a juicy love triangle between his free-spirited childhood best friend, Marti, and her religious roommate, Savannah, Dan has some major decision-making to do.

Read on to find out who Barr's rooting for in the Marti-Savannah-Dan love triangle, his admiration for Bear Grylls, and why the name Matt Barr is now synonymous with "murderer rapist pedophile."

'Magical Law': It Can't Be Any Worse Than 'Outlaw'

by Joel Keller, posted Nov 17th 2010 5:10PM

'Magical Law' A combo of 'Harry Potter' and 'Law & Order: SVU?'
Have you watched an episode of 'The Good Wife' or any of the myriad 'Law & Order' shows and thought, "Wow, if only Detective Benson could cast a spell on that pedophile so his peep falls off. Now that would be justice!"

Well, you may have your chance. According to Joe Adalian of the Vulture blog, there's a pilot script in development at Fox that's a cross between 'Law & Order' and 'Harry Potter.' Yes, you read that right.

Called 'Magical Law,' the show would take place in a wizarding world, where we'd examine how cops and lawyers are able to police and prosecute all of those magic-wielders who are using their powers for evil instead of good (or to conjure kittens from furniture... not sure what these wizards do on their time off). No word on if the cops and lawyers would have powers themselves, but the show would be a heck of a lot more interesting if they did.

Sounds like a silly premise, right? Lawyers and cops fighting crime in the magical realm? But think about it for a second: as much of a disaster than this show sounds like it could be, it can't be any worse than a lawyer show that's already come and gone this season: NBC's "Outlaw."
