Cookie Monster Want To Host 'Saturday Night Live'

by Ryan McKee, posted Nov 23rd 2010 5:30PM

Using the power of the Internet worked for fans of Betty White when they wanted her to host 'Saturday Night Live.' Can the same work for Cookie Monster?

    'Sesame Street'
posted an 'SNL' audition reel for the gluttonous Muppet on their YouTube account. We're not sure if the children's show is serious about this viral campaign for Cookie Monster, which includes a Facebook page. But if they are successful, one of their most iconic characters would perform with the same people who railed against 'Sesame Street' for the Katy Perry debacle.

Chances are it's just a stunt. The producers probably want to seem hip again.

    Sarah Silverman's Thanksgiving Special (VIDEO)

by Ryan McKee, posted Nov 22nd 2010 6:45PM

Sadly, 'The Sarah Silverman Program' is no long with us. That does not mean Silverman will stop delighting, shocking and occasionally disgusting us with her endearingly foul wit. Her latest holiday video on Funny Or Die is a perfect example of just that.

The stand-up comic/actress/writer recalls a Thanksgiving when she was six years old and her well-intentioned father took her to their neighbor's farm to choose a turkey. (A similar version of the story appears in her recent book 'The Bedwetter.') As adults, it's easy to predict the future of whichever turkey young Sarah chose. However, to a child that outcome was not immediately apparent.

'My Boys' Star Jamie Kaler Nearly Kills A Woman With Laughter (VIDEO)

by Ryan McKee, posted Nov 16th 2010 7:00PM

Jamie Kaler's show, the underrated TBS sitcom 'My Boys,' was canceled, but luckily, he has a stand-up comedy career to fall back on. Now Kaler is back on stage with a vengeance. Do you think he blames his audiences for 'My Boys' low ratings?

At a recent show at the Columbus Funny Bone, Kaler literally caused a woman to laugh so hard she began choking (see video below). It was so severe, the comedian noticed her from stage and says, "No, she's not joking." That prompted others to give the choking victim the Heimlich maneuver. Nothing popped out of her throat and everyone realized she was only laughing. Very hard.

Presenting the United States of Television

The United States of Television Do you know where the 'Two and a Half Men' live? Or where Tim "The Tool Man' Taylor was making his 'Home Improvement'?

TV shows, particularly sitcoms, always seem to take place in a generic suburb (Just to save you a Google search, the settings of the aforementioned shows are Malibu, Calif. and Detroit, Mich.respectively). With the possible exception of programs that take place in New York or Los Angeles, most television shows seem to take place in "Anytown, USA."

Well, ponder the locales of your favorite TV shows no more. Last week, The Huffington Post published a map of the United States that linked every state to a movie. Now a blogger has created a similar map identifying every state with a TV show.

Unintentionally Hilarious Product Placement on Soap Operas (VIDEO)

by Ryan McKee, posted Nov 15th 2010 6:30PM

Over the weekend, Kristen Schaal, comedian, actress and now Twitter trend-setter, posted video links over this weekend to awkward examples of product placement in 'Days of Our Lives.'

Now made aware of this unintentional hilary, Twitter users have started finding and linking over bad examples of soap opera advertising under the tag #soapoperaproductplacement.

Few TV shows and big budget movies are completely void of product placement these days. '30 Rock' characters even make clever winks and nods toward the camera when they're forced to schlep a product.

    Don Draper's 'What?' vs. 'Lost's' 'What?'(VIDEO)

What word does Matt Weiner, creator of 'Mad Men,' write most often? Well, "$' isn't really a word. If his main character's favorite word is any indication, then he writes "What?" most often.

A serious 'Mad Men' fan with some serious extra time put together a montage of Don Draper saying "What?" over the last four seasons. A minute and a half of Draper saying "What?" to Peggy, "What?" to Pete, "What?" to Betty "What?" to Roger and "What?" to various secretaries he's since lost.

As the video's creator says, "Don Draper uses the word "what" as Van Gogh used color or Beethoven used sound." Touche.

As Nov. 2 nears and Californians prepare to vote on Proposition 19, which would legalize marijuana in their state, get ready to see plenty of weed-themed lists, articles and videos online.

Adult Swim is one of the front-runners with a list of picks for "Most Hemptacular Moments" on their channel. They open the piece by admitting everyone always thinks they're high when coming up with their extremely oddball programming.

"The answer is that we don't require any substances to create the stuff that we do," the article claims. "Unless, of course, you count "money" as a substance."

Wow, it sounds like they're using cash for rolling papers. Maybe there is more money in late-night extended cable than we previously thought?

Hannah MantegnaSince 'Hannah Montana Forever' is Miley Cyrus's fourth and final season with the show that made her famous, Funny Or Die is proposing a new show to fill the Disney Channel's void.

'Hannah Mantegna' runs on the same basic premise as the original except for one large detail. Instead of changing into a pop superstar, this everyday girl turns into critically-acclaimed actor Joe Mantegna. The hilarious spoof finally answers the question, "What if a this 'Criminal Minds' tough-guy were actually a tween girl?"

Brett Favre, you've been 'Saturday Night Live'-d.

The Minnesota Vikings quarterback and Wrangler jeans spokesman has been in the news for allegedly sexting inappropriate photos to New York Jets 'Gameday' host Jenn Sterger. The NFL is in the midst of its investigation of the matter, but that didn't stop 'Saturday Night Live' from parodying Favre's Wrangler Jeans commercials with a fake ad for 'Open Fly' jeans.

'SNL' star Jason Sudeikis plays Favre as he horses around with his buddies, playing football in his backyard. Except Brett can't stop showing people his junk. Watch the sketch after the jump.

Did 'South Park' Rip Off College Humor?

by Ryan McKee, posted Oct 22nd 2010 5:20PM

Is it us or does it seem like comedy has run out of ideas? 'SNL' was accused of ripping off 'Tim and Eric, Awesome Show, Great Job!', '30 Rock' was accused of ripping off 'The Sarah Silverman Program.' And now 'South Park' is accused of lifting a concept from College Humor.

On Wednesday night's episode, Trey Parker and Matt Stone spoofed the summer blockbuster 'Inception.' The characters tried to explain the dream level plot, yet only seem to further confuse things. It may seem familiar because we've seen dozens of 'Inception' spoofs and jokes since its release.

However, senior sketch writer at College Humor Dan Gurewitch argues the bit seems familiar because it was copied nearly line for line from his video.
