popeater.com:

While everyone is preparing to give thanks tomorrow, one of America's most famous families, the Jolie-Pitts, have decided to sit this Thanksgiving out.

"Angelina Jolie hates this holiday and wants no part in rewriting history like so many other Americans," a friend of the actress tells me. "To celebrate what the white settlers did to the native Indians, the domination of one culture over another, just isn't her style. She definitely doesn't want to teach her multi-cultural family how to celebrate a story of murder."

go overseas and throw flaming arrows at the USA regarding a holiday that is about thanking God for our blessings............find fault with the US and buy a chateau in France........ridicule the US then buy a home in Italy..........after all the violent, gratuitusly violent movies you have made-all the killing.........ive got an idea. why not pack up the brood and live over there.......what a hypocrite you are!

Nice to see the Crazy Angie back. I was getting really tired of the sanctimonious Earth Mother routine she's been doing for a while. Maybe she can start wearing vials of Native American blood (instead of Billy Bob Thornton blood) and making out with her brother again.

a) I look at Thanksgiving not as a historical event but a day to stop and be thankful for life. Its a time to get together with friends and family and enjoy the relationships in your life.

b)Seems like a lot of Angelina's movies have her shooting people and waving her guns around. Most of her films she is a cold blooded killing machine., If you are going to be against violence that is great. But maybe she should stop producing violent films.

I totally agree Jimmy. People seriously need to lighten up and stop with the whole double standard thing! When I celebrate thanksgiving I think about all the people I am sitting and eating with and enjoying the company of.. We cannot change History. but we can ALWAyS tlearn from the bad in the past and celebrate life now!

I love Thanksgiving and for me its a holiday I celebrate for tradition and for giving thanks for the people I have in my life and for what I've got. I don't celebrate it because of the pilgrims. Rush, et al have bastardized the story anyway.

This thread isn't about Jennifer Aniston, whom I do not consider to be the greatest actress of all time. However, I would take her lightheartedness and sunshine over that dour tattooed covered con-artist any day.

On a personal level Thanksgiving one of the top 3 holidays of the year...

I'm a Jolie fan though, and her reasons for not celebrating seem valid. Also, if you consider she had to spend holidays with Jon Voight as a child her opposition to the celebration makes even more sense

Tabloid fodder.

I saw her in line two years ago buying a turkey and stuffing mix. She was joking that she was going to burn it.

Riiiiighhhhht. As if Pretend Mommy would suddenly relieve Pax of his cooking duties for one day out of the year.

if Angelina were to actually say...I would definitely thank her for being a lone voice on this truth.

"A friend of the actress tells me"...

This is not an interview with Angelina Jolie. Who is the unnamed "friend" who is doing an interview with Popeater?

Seems as if someone simply wants to make money off of Angelina Jolie's name.

When my Native American relatives (mom's side) and my next door neighbors ask me to boycott Thanksgiving instead of asking me to pass the gravy, I'll consider it. Until then I'll live my own life and blissfully ignore Ms. Jolie.

well my grandfather is Cherokee and step father is Choctaw, so I guess the blankets with small pox, which the government handed out to the Native Americans are a means of celebration

Good grief!

So you didn't celebrate Thanksgiving?

Crow & Sioux. Still think I have something to be grateful for.
lynncs   01:48 PM on 11/27/2010
Good for her. Atleast she isn't feeding her face and talking out of the other side of her mouth.
I have a queasy feeling about the whole native american slaughter and holidays that celebrate our nation building on the backs of others. I think that Columbus Day should be changed to honor a real heroe, not someone who committed mass murder.
The pilgrim/indian story we were told as children still sticks in my memory as a good one, and the message of being grateful is also a good one, so i choose to celebrate ( although I am vegetarian so the slaughter of millions of turkeys also gets to me) I celebrate with veggies.
At our dinner table, I mentioned the indians and my son (13) said isn't that racist mom? i think they prefer native american!!!!! our children always know better. I think Angelina seems to be sending very positive messages to her children, and that is what really counts.
Rozanna   08:01 PM on 11/27/2010
I do agree with you about Columbus Day. It is long overdue to dump that federal holiday. It is built on a lie, and to say that he "discovered" America is an insult to the people who were already here.

Most of her successful roles have had her waving weapons and getting violent. So this sounds hypocritical. There are many vegetarians. It is not like she cooks or does housework, anyway.

I feel exactly the same way about Thanksgiving, and being a vegan adds to my distaste for the holiday even more.I wish I had the courage that Jolie has to announce that she is boycotting the holiday. If I did that my mom would be devastated so my family pressure keeps me from boycotting the historically inaccurate holiday.
Rozanna   10:55 PM on 11/27/2010
I'm a vegan too, but I like Thanksgiving and do celebrate it.

She has more talent in her finger than all the other actress combined who are out there now

Now that is a laugh! I cannot imagine what kind of garbage you must watch, if you consider Jolie to be a superior actress.

Have you ever see the Daniel Pearl Story? Anytime a white girl can play an afro-cuban woman and convince the viewer that it is real and bring a tear to your eye-thats an actress. She has all of the old hollywood talent, which today's actress lack.
