The Jets have reportedly lost S Jim Leonhard for the season with a leg injury.
Dec 3, 2010 - The New York Jets received some bad news on Friday when it was reported that safety Jim Leonhard would miss the big Monday Night Football matchup against the New England Patriots with a leg injury. On Friday, head coach Rex Ryan called it "terrible news."
The NY Daily News has even worse news on Leonhard: He's now out for the year. Citing a source, Manish Mehta reports Leonhard is done for the year with a lower leg injury. This is devastating news to the Jets, who relied heavily on Leonhard.
Leonhard suffered the injury in a practice collision, which Ryan called a "severe" injury.
Not only is Leonhard their No. 1 punt returner, he also calls the defensive signals. Some have attributed much of the brains behind the Jets defense to Leonhard.
The timing couldn't be worse as they prepare to face Tom Brady and the Patriots, one of the league's best passing attacks. Now, Brodney Pool and Eric Smith will start at safety against the Patriots.
The Jets have yet to announce or confirm the report on Leonhard's injury. Asked on Friday if the Jets can still win this game without Leonhard, Ryan said, "Absolutely."
