Patch 4.0.3a hotfixes for Dec. 2
That's right, it's time for another round of hotfixes for our game going into the last weekend of Wrath of the Lich King. So, you may ask, what's been fixed? Well, for starters, we'll take a look at some highlights. Then we'll have the complete list after the break.
Patch 4.0.3a Hotfixes
- Players can no longer skin Crushcog Sentry-Bots or Crushcog Battle Suits in Dun Morogh... because they don't have skin.
- Stats on the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat have been reduced, as it can currently be equipped by players of all levels.
- Crafty players again found a way to catch Cataclysm fish. Crafty designers have made this impossible without a Cataclysm key attached to a player's account.
There's a lot more than fishing issues to discuss, of course. But I thought those were the most amusing.
And here are the complete hotfixes for your edification. I found it interesting that despite doing quite a bit of PvP, I hadn't even noticed the Spirit of Redemption bug. Maybe that's because I seem to be horrible at killing priests.
Patch 4.0.3a Hotfixes
December 2
- Players can no longer skin Crushcog Sentry-Bots or Crushcog Battle Suits in Dun Morogh... because they don't have skin.
- The grace time for players who have disconnected from a Battleground has been increased to three minutes before being issued the Deserter debuff.
- Stats on the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat have been reduced, as it can currently be equipped by players of all levels.
- Crafty players again found a way to catch Cataclysm fish. Crafty designers have made this impossible without a Cataclysm key attached to a player's account.
- Revitalizing Sandals now have an enchantment of +1 Intellect.
- Ravenous Jaws off the coast of Icecrown grew strangely large and have been returned to their normal size.
- Players who die within Ahn'Qiraj: The Fallen Kingdom are no longer granted a Spectral Gryphon mount while in spirit form.
Druids
- Rake is now dealing the same damage outside of Cat Form when the druid has the Razor Claws mastery. Rake damage also stays consistent when modified by Mangle as a druid shifts out of Cat Form.
- The proc buff from the talent Shooting Stars should no longer be consumed without providing its benefits if the druid is already casting Starsurge.
Hunters
- Silithid Swarmers are now tamable by hunters.
- Hunter pets that changed pet families prior to patch 4.0.3 will no longer retain their previous talents on top of the new Cataclysm pet talents. Hunters will have to untalent their pets to pick up this correction.
Mages
- The Fire mage mastery Flashburn will now properly increase the periodic damage of Combustion.
- Frostbolt for low-level mages was doing too little damage. Frostbolt damage has been increased at low levels, while low-level Water Elemental damage has been decreased slightly to compensate.
- The Pyromaniac talent is now properly triggering when 3 or more targets are affected by a mage's periodic damage Fire spells.
Paladins
- The presence of the Word of Glory effect from the paladin talent Guarded by the Light will no longer prevent casting or get overwritten by Power Word: Shield.
Priests
- Smite's scaling coefficient has been increased. The damage of Smite is now very similar to Heal in value. This change has been made to ensure the Archangel Discipline sub-specialization remains viable.
- The presence of the Word of Glory effect from the paladin talent Guarded by the Light will no longer prevent casting or get overwritten by Power Word: Shield.
- Killing priests with the Spirit of Redemption talent now correctly awards Honor, killing blows and Honorable Kills. Also, abilities that proc off of killing blows like Victory Rush are now proccing properly when a priest is talented into Spirit of Redemption.
Quests
- The Horde version of the Ashenvale Quests achievement now requires 62 Ashenvale quests completed, down from 80.
- The Alliance version of the Un'Goro Crater Quests achievement now requires 40 Un'Goro Crater quests completed, down from 45.
- All non-elite NPCs in Mord'rethar: The Death Gate, Icecrown now respawn more slowly. In addition, Undying Minions no longer award experience.
- Blackfathom Tide Priestesses required for the quest "Deep Despair" in Ashenvale now respawn more quickly.
- Razgar's Fillet Knife and Drowned Thunder Lizard Tail are now removed from a player's inventory upon completing the quest "A Golden Opportunity" in Orgrimmar.
- The Alliance shaman quest "Blessing of the Elements" in Stormwind was not providing rewards for all talent specializations. It now rewards either an Agility-based axe for Enhancement shaman, or an Intellect-based axe for Restoration/Elemental shaman.
- Writings of the Dark Herald will now drop from Telarius Voidstrider in Darkshore for all players in a party.
- Dead Alliance players are no longer able to die in spirit form while on the quest "Bael'dun Rescue" in Southern Barrens.
- Scourge Disguise is now removed as soon as a player leaves Zul'Drak.
- Pylons in Un'Goro Crater no longer play a sound effect when interacting with them to complete the associated quests. This is a temporary fix to address an issue with the audio continually playing until logout after completing the quest "The Northern Pylon".
- Teegan Holloway for the quest "The Looting of Althalaxx" in Darkshore has had his respawn time decreased.
- Warlord Thresh'jin for the quest "Out of the Ziggurat" in Eastern Plaguelands can now be looted by all players in a party.
And there's your lot. Seriously, I can't kill a priest. I am terrible.

Weird I didnt read anywhere in there about them returning the meta gems back to something useful...
Shaurt Dec 2nd 2010 9:07PM
Bliz stated that the changes to the Meta gems (especially the DPS gem requirements) are a bit too large to be hotfixed. It may take a minor content patch to actually change them.
Cowfodder Dec 2nd 2010 9:11PM
That's because it can't be done with a hotfix, which has been mentioned before. Won't happen till next patch.

I'm sure the metagame adjustments will be in by patch 4.1! We only have to wait till april or so.

Awesome! The deserter debuff thing is big for me. Occasionally my modem will spontaneously reboot (once or twice a day, usually) and then I'm stuck with the deserter debuff because it takes me two minutes to get it going again.
Looking forward to fewer desertions!
Harvoc Dec 2nd 2010 9:11PM
For me, I'm glad that they implemented this change too because if some people are being idiots and flag you as Inactive on purpose (which happened to me quite recently), then you won't get the deserter debuff immediately after being kicked out of the battleground. This means that you can queue for a battleground again.
peon47 Dec 2nd 2010 10:11PM
@Harvoc
The hotfix is about people who disconnect in a battleground. ie. Peopler whose modems reset or computer crashes. They now have 3 minutes to reboot and get back into the game before they get removed from the battleground.
Anyone kicked by a group vote - even an "unfair" one - still gets the deserter debuff as normal.

This BG disconnect fix is about 3 tech support issues that have nothing to do with computer / modem crashes. There are 3 different bugs affecting thousands of players where their WoW client initiates a disconnect for absolutely no reason. The problem has been happening since 4.0.1 was released and Blizzard has been far less than forthcoming about the problem.
If you're interested you can read the tech support thread here, this one is for sudden and random disconnects anywhere in the game, it's 33 pages long as of this writing: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1021052477?page=1
There is another lag spike followed by disconnect issue that arose after 4.0.3 was released, that thread is here and it's 35 pages long: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1021054037
And finally theres a thread about high latency followed by a disconnect pre 4.0.3, it's 32 pages long: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1021053250
Those of us affected by these disconnects are happy to see this tiny bit of accommodation on Blizzard's part - especially since they don't seem able to fix the problems.

@Monato
Thank you!
My girlfriend's brand new laptop seems to randomly disconnect once or twice an hour, for no reason, and has done so for a few weeks now. My laptop is unaffected. This is probably related.
Stupid Blizzard and their inability to address issues like this. =\

Thank Thrall (and may Garrosh burn in the fiery pits of Rage Fire chasm)!
Half the reason I barely BG any more is because it seems about every third time I queue I wait an hour to get in then WoW "randomly" DCs* me and I have deserter before the game will even log me back in.
I haven't even bothered trying since 4.03 as the DCs are way more regular AND if I DC and get dropped back to a city I need to re-start WoW before it will get past the loading screen.
P.S. Blizzard really need to hire some network techs as the quality of service is degrading as they add more battle.net "features". I remember the months of hell my guild had when they made the instance servers cross-realm, we would get 5-10 people DC as soon as combat started in most raids.
* It isn't my net connection I have more than enough bandwidth and FPS games and other MMO's don't kick me off with the frequency that WoW does.

"Crafty players again found a way to catch Cataclysm fish. Crafty designers have made this impossible without a Cataclysm key attached to a player's account."
Drats! And I would have gotten more Cataclysm fish if it wasn't for those meddling designers!
...actually I think I've been out of the loop, I did not know people were already fishing up Cataclysm-level fish... Hmmm...
North Dec 2nd 2010 9:52PM
I'm not sure how, but I guess that since you can cast your lure forward it might be possible to vault it over zone boundaries and into the water in level 80-85 zones.
Calieb- Dec 2nd 2010 11:24PM
and it comes along with a 24hour ban!! its a special bonus :(
Hih Dec 3rd 2010 2:25AM
As long as the fish gets taken away from them in addition to the ban...
Shadda Dec 4th 2010 1:22AM
I believe that people were using water-walking abilities/elixers to get to the coast of new zones. Seems silly to risk getting banned for something as boring as fishing. :D
Mikey Dec 2nd 2010 9:21PM
nothing about the bloodmyst isle quest achievement i have 59 and i need 65 been to the island like 3 times
Twill Dec 2nd 2010 9:46PM
Non Draneai need only 60. My druid just got it. If you think you have gotten all the quests, all I can say is you missed about 4, because I ended up reaching 63. WowHead has a great post on it, go look at that, It solved my problems.
Blazenwing Dec 2nd 2010 9:56PM
Did you do the Admiral Odesyus quest chain in Azuremyst Isle, south of Azure Watch? That quest line opens up a quest line via a letter given to you in Blood Watch that provides a number of quests, and it's quite easy to overlook if you're just doing Loremaster and only questing in the zones that offer achievements.
neogramps Dec 3rd 2010 4:36AM
I only needed 60 as Dranei, it confused me as I handed in a couple and suddenly got the achievement.
Also make sure to loot the murlocs on the south west coast of the island; they drop a quest starting item which I think gives another couple of quests.
