Although her debut role was rather miniscule, Shazahn Padamsee doesn’t rue starting her film career with Rocket Singh – Salesman Of The Year. “When you regret, you’re only wasting time,” she says, asserting that despite limited visibility it was a great start. “In fact, it’s funny when
people ask me where I was in the movie,” she recalls, adding that it was not a mistake. “I got to enter the industry with Ranbir Kapoor, under the direction of Shimit Amin and in a Yashraj production. It gave me a certain position to start with.”

A year after the flop debut, Padamsee is gung-ho about Madhur Bhandarkar’s Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji (DTBHJ) with Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Omi Vaidya and Shruti Haasan. “At 22, I’ve worked with Ranbir, Shimit, Shah Rukh Khan in an ad, Ajay Devgn, Madhur Bhandarkar and the hit film, Orange in south with Chiranjeevi’s son, Ram Charan Teja. How many 22 year old girls can claim to be in this league?” she wonders.

The actor says that she took up the ensemble DTBHJ because of the scope of her character, June Pinto: “While it’s a romantic comedy, it also has Madhur’s realistic touch. The humour isn’t the leave-your-brains-at-home kind.”

During the film, she was aware of Devgn’s reputation as a prankster. So at the onset, she requested him to spare her of his practical jokes. But she couldn’t stop Bhandarkar from mimicking her. “Madhur is so good at it that I’d tell him he should be an actor. The film is a lot like him, because his heart is like a child,” recalls Padamsee.

She’s the only actor from her family to venture into films: “I was training to be a writer, but I stumbled upon acting. Now that I’m getting interesting roles, it’s up to me to make optimum use of this opportunity to learn and grow as an actor.”
