Increase in restos open for Christmas Eve and/or Day?

The southern NE board reports more spots open for Christmas Eve, and we've seen that in St. Louis as well, and not just the usual Chinese spots. Just (Christmas Day a.m.) got an email from a friend's sis in LA who reports with some shock that a place they like is also open, and they're going. Any one else seeing this?

My guess is it's economics, of course; we saw a drastic increase in spots doing Mother's Day brunches this year, and I suspect it's the same phenom.

    1. Yes, but I noticed this the last time Christmas was on a Saturday (2005). I did not notice it as much the last few years. Christmas won't be on a Saturday again until 2021, so then we will see if this is a pattern or not.

        1. Where I am, most restaurants open as normal on Christmas Eve. Many open for Christmas Day lunch. A few, mainly Chinese or Indian, open for dinner.

            1. I point a finger curled with spite at the customer base that neither can or wants to cook a meal.

but then again there have been years when I couldn't be bothered and was happy for the alternative.
