You may already be familiar with Reem Acra's pre-fall designs if you follow the red-carpet scene. Halle Berry and Krysten Ritter recently donned strapless minidresses coated in gold and silver sequins, respectively, from the collection. Acra knows her glam customer well, and delivered the razzle-dazzle they've come to expect here. There was a beaded, emerald dress with a plunging neck and back that looked like something Daisy Buchanan would've worn to an East Egg party (take note, Miss Mulligan). A string of organza confections featured hand-dyed lace, with matching boleros providing a bit more coverage for those whose ingenue days are behind them.

But it was Acra's pared-down looks that stood out. A pair of high-waisted flares from Spring were a big hit with retailers, so Acra brought them back for pre-fall in a lightweight crepe. An unadorned, drop-waist dress with a puffy taffeta skirt in electric blue, meanwhile, struck us as almost minimal. Does this mark a new direction for Acra? Don't count on it. There are still plenty of paillettes to go around.
