While posting the Friday night ratings, I knew that some Fringe fans might be buoyed by Human Target ratings. If Human Target could retain 71%-76% of its last original on Wednesday with a last minute schedule change to Friday, might Fringe fair better since Fox has had lots of time to promote the Friday move? It’s not a ridiculous to wonder, ater all, FOX entertainment chief Kevin Reilly is now saying he’ll be happy if Fringe retains 80% of its Thursday ratings. But I wouldn’t read too much into what happened last night.
If you believe Reilly, retaining 80% of Fringe’s Thursday ratings means about a 1.5 live+SD adults 18-49 rating. It won’t surprise me if Fringe can do that or maybe even a little better in its premiere next week. Fringe has a couple of things in its favor next week, namely that both CSI: NY on CBS and Supernatural on the CW are repeats (last night Supernatural was a repeat, but CSI: NY was new). The following Friday (1/28) CBS is in repeats, but the CW lineup is all new.
I’ll be a lot more interested in how Fringe does on January 28 than in its premiere on January 21 when any hype around its premiere will be behind it, and it has to face a new Supernatural.
That would be a good combo fringe and human target on fridays. Lie to me’s fate will be decided but chicago code i bet
I know that dude sitting down….he got toasted in LOTR3….that was so cool.
Human Target, in a wednesday night with no competition, does something close to 1.6;
In a friday, it does ~1.3;
Fringe, in a thursday night with a lot of competition, does ~1.8,1.9;
In a friday, it will probably does something aroud 1.5;;
Oh, yes.
I think Fringe is stronger than Human Target in demo, is it?
fringe will be around 1,7-1,8 next week with no competition and it’ll peobably fall to 1,5-1,6 with the competition!! 1,5-1,6 is really good for FOX on friday since everything they tried on friday night died so if everything goes well fringe will have good chances staying on fridays next season!!
I love Fringe, but i think it will be lucku if it get a 1.4 – 1.5
honestly I just can see it making 0.9 – 1.2
I don’t have high hopes about Fringe,
I just can enjoy this season and hope the writers will give it a good final
@badman
Indeed
I mean Lucky
why there’s no Edit button?
Samp
I think human target got a 1.2 for the hour in question unless you are comparing the eight pm time slot.
@Scriper
Why Human Target would do better than Fringe?
I think you’re wrong
@Mark Wood
I think Samp means around when he put ” ~ ” behind. It means around. At least here in Brazil.
I don’t watch these shows. Is it fitting that these comments have quickly become incomprehensible?
I have to agree with Robert here. How Fringe does in its heavily promoted return on the 21st doesn’t mean much. I can see it MAYBE netting a 1.5, but I don’t think it will retain that over its 8-week run. I envision it dropped to a 0.8-1.0 by then.
Short answer: NO.
Fringe might do okay in its first Friday airing, but I fully expect its numbers to drop off significantly in subsequent weeks. I don’t think it has enough of a fan base to survive. And it has nothing to do with Human Target (though I think HT would also fall off a cliff if it stayed on Friday for any length of time).
Does weather have anything to do w/ ratings? Specifically, WINTER weather?
How was the overall viewership last winter?
In many states, people don’t go out as much on Fridays in the winter…which %-wise might help some struggling shows.
Personally, I hope FRINGE makes it another season. This season has been my favorite season of FRINGE. I’ve been watching it a LOT more than I ever did before. Haven’t missed an episode.
Lisa, my short answer was “No” too. But sadly for us, posts with just the word “no” are not very Google-friendly.
@Jeff Earls,
Can winter weather have an affect? yes, but not a huge difference and the opposite is also true (Daylight Savings Time and warm weather bring lower ratings). Will that help Fringe at all? No.
I can see it doing well (1.5-1.6) in its first airing partly because of HT last night, but also because of the much-hyped return. I still stand by my original prediction for later episodes, though – low 1s. It might even get beaten by Supernatural on some weeks.
You know the funny thing is of both show’s stay’s on friday. Is both Mark Valley And Annia Trovi or married. That would be the frist time tow shows would be on the same night and the leads of both show would be married together. I’m shocked that fringe is even up for being canned. It’s better the Human Target. I like both shows myself. But I think the only reson Human Target came back this year was because of the press Jackie Eure Haily got for replacing Robert Englind as Freddy in the Nightmare remake. I hope they both stay on,
The 3 Fox eternal “to be canceled” shows is a boring history especially for the network…
Maybe a chance for Fringe but others are dead… seriously awful ratings and i don’t understand why Fox kept not one but three ..
LTM was the best in ratings by far season 1 and even 2 ,the worst now because
very very bad writing and curious acting..
