Behind The Scenes Of Dead Space: Aftermath

While both Dead Space 2 and Dead Space: Aftermath are readily available on retail shelves, EA continues to promote the franchise with a behind-the-scenes look at making of the animated feature. In the video below, key team members describe the inspiration behind Aftermath’s fractured storytelling, and why multiple perspectives with multiple artistic visions was the best way to bridge the gap between Dead Space and Dead Space 2.

With two pillar releases, two supplementary games, two animated movies, a novel, and comic counterparts, Dead Space’s lore is becoming increasingly complex.

Did any of you opt to pick up Aftermath?

Comments
  • Have not been able to pick this up yet, but Visceral and EA are doing great things with this story.  I am very pleased with the amount of effort going into making a "real" universe that this takes place in. Once the game stops, you still have some much that you can play around with in your head.

  • I picked up Aftermath, it did give some decent back-story to one of the main supporting characters of Dead Space 2.The thing is the films has this pseudo CGI going on (Think the old Roughnecks chow) that really diminishes the quality in between the actual animated bits. The story is largely forgetful with the blunt message of"UNITOLITGY IS BAD RUN AWAY!" and the characters following the normal stereotypes of "Crazed cult member thinks abominations is the next step towards God or Evolution, hulking team member seeing ghosts, girl who wants to uncover the truth and big crazy dude seeing apparitions of family members. I will give them credit on the actual animation and the necromorphs design, which are good. All in all a forgettable movie only recommended to the biggest of fans.
  • I thought it was interesting with the way it showed how Stross was tied into Dead Space 2.

  • What was the question again?

  • not to cartoony yet not too anime.

    i like how they did

  • I borrowed Aftermath DVD from one of friends other day. I viewed it once, and I returned it to him the next day. No desire to view it again or buy it. It's just that it's not that bad movie, but not good, either. So-so CGI doesn't necessarily make entirely bad movie though and it contains CGI and good hand-drawing animation mix together. But, it doesn't have interestingly solid story with sufficiently deep characters. I understand the overall message behind the story which is basically saying "Unitology is evil." But, it isn't exactly very good movie I thought it would be, but it's not that bad though. More like in-between good and bad. I think Downfall is little bit better than Aftermath, IMO, mind you.
  • Downfall was awesome.  If this ends up on Netflix I'll definitely pick it up.

  • Oh come on , Dead Space has great story and gameplay , but never have been scary and I dont think it will ever be scary . But that doesnt mean that I dont like the game or the "movies" .

  • Me and some friends rented Aftermath, it was pretty entertaining.  I am glad I watched it after I beat Dead Space 2 though.  It would have given away a little too much IMO.

  • This looks pretty interesting, but not as revelatory as the game. Rashomon is a great film.

  • I really liked Downfall, Aftermath was okay but not quite as good. It did give some back story into how the marker actually starts necromorph infections (or at least one way) which I liked, since that's something that's been bugging me for awhile. As a few people have mentioned the CGI used for the first part of the story and the narrative between stories wasn't the best, and clashed with the hand-drawn style of the rest of the film. More importantly the story just wasn't particularly great. Not bad, just not great; I kept watching more to bridge the gap between the games than for entertainment.

  • Just watched downfall like last week. Maybe I'll look at aftermath some time for the story.

  • I've seen Aftermath recently...It was not as good as the first movie in my opinion, but every bit as bloody lol. I couldn't really put the story together with the game. The computer animation weirded me out in the beginning(Really lol WTF) and it had the good ole' cliche` "I HAVE TO SAVE MY DEAD DAUGHTER" character...Don't worry that information won't spoil it.

  • Cool! I haven't bought it, but I love that the Dead Space team has put so much effort into expanding their lore. I don't think I'll buy it, but I'm definitely going to head over to youtube to see if I can find it there

  • For the most part I liked the film. The story was great as were the individual animated tales. However, the CGI was terrible. Thank God it was only used to tie all the stories together.

  • I haven't seen it yet, but soon...

  • Personally I liked the art style, the CGI was simplistic and got the job done. But what I liked was the animation in each story, little things like how a certain character looked from a certain person's point of view really told you about the individual's emotion. For example, from Dr. Cho's point of view Strauss was immediately portrayed muscular, showing the way she thought of him. I also liked the explanations for what happened to Aegis VII and where the hell Strauss came from in Dead Space 2. B+ I'd say, I recommend it to any fan of the series who wants to expand their knowledge of the Dead Space universe.

  • love Dead Space 2...does anyone know what the hell happend at the end???

  • "Far better than the American animation"

    It's just cheaper. Doosh Bags.

  • reminds me of the batman animated movie that tied begins to dark knight
