The Southern Poverty Law Center desires diverse, experienced candidates with the character, capabilities, and commitment for our challenging mission. Applicants are encouraged to apply for positions that fit their needs and abilities.

Positions include full-time and part-time employment, legal internships, and two-year fellowships. The SPLC does not offer a formal internship program for college undergraduates.

After an initial review by our Human Resources department, resumes and materials are forwarded to the appropriate departmental supervisor to be further reviewed before preliminary interviews are scheduled.

Communications

Communications Associate

Full time, Montgomery, AL

The Communications Associate is a key member of the Public Affairs team and is responsible for communicating the Southern Poverty Law Center’s mission, goals and programmatic work to the media, members and the public.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is seeking an interface developer/Drupal themer. This position will develop interfaces for SPLC web projects in close collaboration with backend developers. The ability to take written and verbal direction is essential (as is the ability to think for yourself and independently solve problems). The ideal candidate has proven experience creating standards-based websites and is comfortable in a fast-paced, team environment.

Development

Grants Officer

Full time, Montgomery, AL

The Grants Officer will be responsible for reaching annual revenue goals by writing, editing and preparing complete and compelling grant proposals and reports for institutional funders and foundations. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and writing skills with a proven track record of soliciting and closing major institutional gifts.

Legal

The Southern Poverty Law Center seeks to sponsor applicants for postgraduate legal fellowships to start in September 2011. Applicants should be law students graduating in the spring of 2011 (current 2Ls) or current law clerks. The applicant will be based in our New Orleans office and work on cutting-edge youth advocacy campaigns in the Deep South. We are seeking applicants for the Skadden Fellowship, Liman Fellowship or other public interest fellowships.

Education Lawyer

Senior Staff Attorney

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit legal and educational organization, seeks an attorney with at least five years of experience in social justice litigation and advocacy to join its legal team. This position will be expected to develop new cases and spearhead litigation as well as supervise staff attorneys, law fellows, legal interns, and outreach workers.
