Android Security Vulnerability Leaks Login Data

Data security is something often taken for granted when it comes to login and password combinations, with the user generally assuming the login system is secure from end-to-end. Unfortunately due to a convenience system implemented in Android 2.3.3 and below, these login credentials can be inadvertantly exposed to anyone listening. The vulnerability was first spotted in Android several months ago and patched for some specific programs, but still affects Google Calendar, Contacts, and possibly other accounts. Typically login transactions are done through  read more

Dolphin Browser HD v5.0 Enters Public Beta

It's been almost seven months since Dolphin released version 4.0 of its Dolphin Browser HD, an alternate web browser for Android users. Version 5.0 has been in the works recently, and the company announced a week ago that it would be starting a private beta for users to run it through the ringer of real-world tests. As of today, the company has lifted the restrictions off the test, opening the beta to the public and giving many of us our first look at Dolphin Browser HD 5.0 Beta1. If you were a 4.0 user, the first thing you should notice is the UI  read more

Speculation: Windows Phone + Skype + Nokia = Awesome

Microsoft has been a major player in the smartphone game since back in the days when their only competition was Palm. Windows Mobile had a very successful run before it was replaced years and years later with today's Windows Phones. It came as somewhat of a surprise when Microsoft recently announced they were acquiring audio/video chat and VoIP provider Skype. For those of you who don't know, Skype has one of the best voice codecs around. Their codec (the algorithm that encodes your voice into digital data and back again) is very efficient, allowing for  read more

Vizio Via Phone Touches Down at FCC With AT&T; Bands

Vizio got 2011 started by revealing that it would be stepping outside its comfort zone of HDTVs and getting into the Android game, releasing both a tablet and a smartphone. The newcomer to the field announced plans to create the Via Phone, a device with a four-inch display and front-facing camera. Things have been mostly quiet since that news broke, but it looks like Vizio's smartphone has finally surfaced again, showing up in recently-published FCC documentation. Arriving as model VPHN1044G, the Vizio smartphone has been FCC-cleared for operation on  read more

LG Revolution Could Go On Sale May 26, Say Best Buy Shots

The LG Revolution on Verizon LTE may have missed its chance to be the smartphone that would introduce the Android community to streaming Netflix video, but there are still plenty of firsts left for the handset; it's been tipped to be the first phone on Verizon to use its LTE connection for regular voice calls in addition to data. That capability is still a bit of a ways off, expected to arrive via update sometime next year, but what about the Revolution itself - when will it get here? It missed the May 12 date we heard rumored for it, but now there's a  read more

Seven Steps to a Faster Android (Video)

Looking for ways to make your Android feel faster? Here are seven steps you can take to achieve that ends. Note that the best two ways to make your device truly faster, which we're not going to cover here, involve installing a custom ROM and overclocking your CPU. Use a third-party launcher like LauncherPro, ADWLauncher EX, or GoLauncher EX 4. Don't use live wallpaper 5.  read more

HTC Evo Shift 4G Gingerbread ROM Leaked

Android 2.3 Gingerbread has been leaked to another HTC smartphone, this time around it's the HTC EVO Shift 4G. This leaked ROM could be an internal build for testing and not the "final" Gingerbread build, but users aren't reporting any substantial problems with it. Taking it a step further, XDA-Developers have pieced the ROM together with BusyBox and made it flashable, which makes applying the custom-version of this ROM very easy for Rooted users. If you're interested in that build head over to the XDA-Developers thread. Source: 911 Sniper Via:  read more

Nokia N9 Teaser Ad Appears (Video) [Update x2]

Less than a week after we saw it unexpectedly pop up in the FCC database, the MeeGo-powered Nokia N9 (N950?) has appeared in a professional-looking teaser commercial (clip embedded below), further suggesting that not only is this handset still destined for release, but that a launch may actually be imminent. The latest report pegs next month as the likely window for an official debut; however, this is a phone which seems to have been fully-baked since the fall of last year, so we wouldn't take anything for granted here. Final specs on the N9/N950 are as  read more
