The Hale End Academy, where the Club nurtures young players from Under-9 to Under-16 levels, is Roy's domain. He is responsible for its operations - overseeing 120 budding footballers as well as the recruitment of youngsters into the facility.
Roy was a professional player in his own right, operating as a striker. He was a trainee with the Gunners before enjoying spells with Rotherham, Leyton Orient and Colchester United. His career was forced into a premature end at the age of 28 due to a knee injury, but he went on to coach Colchester's youth side for 15 years before another six years with Norwich City. He joined Arsenal as a coach in 1998, and is a qualified PE teacher.
