Notes on Kite Aerial Photography: Photo Gallery
The Conservatory (34K jpg, Canon 24-mm, May
1997).
The east
end of Golden Gate Park is home to a fine old glasshouse with
Victorian overtones. This flower conservatory is part exhibit and
part production greenhouse supporting other areas of the park. A
friend had requested images of the Conservatory for use in an
article so I shot a roll while the boys rollerbladed. In the
beginning the wind was not particularly consistent so I ended up
flying the kite for a hour before sending up the rig.
As is often the case the park was
crowded that Sunday. It is interesting that what seemed like a
very dense crowd from the ground ended up seeming quite sparse
from the sky.
A wide view to the west and an oblique of the Conservatory (29K

Once the camera was up the wind seemed to fill in nicely. I settled for the light available during the midday hours though I generally prefer light from the edge of the day.
The Conservatory is currently closed to the public due to damage from a major winter storm a year or so ago. The planting beds in front of the glasshouse are covered in plastic in preparation for Spring planting.
