All For Charity: Walk This Way

All For Charity: Walk This Way

As we come to the end of charity week on this dear blog, we wanted to bring you news of a very important and special event happening in London next weekend. Get your trainers at the ready because next Saturday is LONDON WALKABOUT 2011.

The Walkabout Foundation is a non-profit organisation, which has put its effort towards providing wheelchairs to those in need in developing countries (co-founder Carolina Gonzalez-Bunster is seen pictured here on her most recent mission in Rwanda), as well as focusing on finding a cure for paralysis. The charity was formed in 2009 after Carolina’s brother, Luis, was paralysed from the chest down in a car accident. Since then, they have crossed the continent of Spain, travelled to Haiti 7 times (once with Bill Clinton), as well as the Dominican Republic and Rwanda. Next week’s walk will raise funds for much-needed Rough Rider wheelchairs (those which can cross rugged terrain) for up-coming trips to Chile, Pakistan and Sudan. The 15k LONDON WALKABOUT will be open to all walkers and wheelchair riders of any and every fitness ability. There is even a shorter 5k option for those who are slightly daunted by the 15k aspect, so there really is no excuse not to! For a little further incentive, BioEffect skincare and Nails Inc sit alongside Net-a-Porter, Vitamin Water, Lola’s Cupcakes, Pure Package, Oakley Capital, Regatta and KX Gym as official sponsors of the event and all have provided items for the goody bags that will be given to those who cross the finish line.

LONDON WALKABOUT 2011 is on June 18th at 10am and is around Hyde Park, Green Park and St James’ Park. See you there.

All For Charity: Join the FITE

All For Charity: Join the FITE

In January of this year, one of our favourite does-it-all skincare brands, Dermalogica, joined forces with Kiva.org, a non-profit organisation which provides small loans to people without access to traditional banking systems. Together they have created FITE: Financial Independence for women Through Entrepreneurship. As well as providing small loans to women to start businesses, the initiative also helps to support existing ones and provide jobs to other women.

As a company which employs more than 75,000 skincare therapists worldwide, and with the industry being the largest global employer of women, it seems only apt for Dermalogica to become involved in such a worthwhile cause. To join the FITE, simply purchase one of the brands five top-selling products, Daily Microfoliant, Pre Cleanse, Skin Hydrating Booster, Total Eye Care and Intensive Eye Repair (all of which have been issued in new FITE-themed packaging), and enter the special numeric code (found inside the sleeve) on FITE's website. A $1 donation will then be made by Dermalogica towards the funding of a micro-loan to a female entrepreneur through Kiva. You can also choose the region and type of business you would like your money to go to. What are you waiting for? Get FITE-ing.
