As we come to the end of charity week on this dear blog, we wanted to bring you news of a very important and special event happening in London next weekend. Get your trainers at the ready because next Saturday is LONDON WALKABOUT 2011.
The Walkabout Foundation is a non-profit organisation, which has put its effort towards providing wheelchairs to those in need in developing countries (co-founder Carolina Gonzalez-Bunster is seen pictured here on her most recent mission in Rwanda), as well as focusing on finding a cure for paralysis. The charity was formed in 2009 after Carolina’s brother, Luis, was paralysed from the chest down in a car accident. Since then, they have crossed the continent of Spain, travelled to Haiti 7 times (once with Bill Clinton), as well as the Dominican Republic and Rwanda. Next week’s walk will raise funds for much-needed Rough Rider wheelchairs (those which can cross rugged terrain) for up-coming trips to Chile, Pakistan and Sudan. The 15k LONDON WALKABOUT will be open to all walkers and wheelchair riders of any and every fitness ability. There is even a shorter 5k option for those who are slightly daunted by the 15k aspect, so there really is no excuse not to! For a little further incentive, BioEffect skincare and Nails Inc sit alongside Net-a-Porter, Vitamin Water, Lola’s Cupcakes, Pure Package, Oakley Capital, Regatta and KX Gym as official sponsors of the event and all have provided items for the goody bags that will be given to those who cross the finish line.
LONDON WALKABOUT 2011 is on June 18th at 10am and is around Hyde Park, Green Park and St James’ Park. See you there.
