Contributions from three Focused Sessions that were part of the 34th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC), in Daytona Beach, FL, January 24-29, 2010 are presented in this volume. The broad range of topics is captured by the Focused Session titles, which are listed as follows: FS1 - Geopolymers and other Inorganic Polymers; FS3 - Computational Design, Modeling Simulation and Characterization of Ceramics and Composites; and FS4 - Nanolaminated Ternary Carbides and Nitrides (MAX Phases).

Contributions from three symposia that were part of the 34th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC), in Daytona Beach, FL, January 24-29, 2010 are presented in this volume.

The broad range of topics is captured by the symposia titles, which are listed as follows: International Symposium on Ceramics for Electric Energy Generation, Storage, and Distribution (debuted in 2010); Thermal Management Materials and Technologies (debuted in 2010); and lastly, and Advanced Sensor Technology, Developments and Applications (debuted in 2010). These new symposia emerged during this ICACC meeting due to community growth and interest, and thus each of these subject areas were established as stand-alone symposia.

This book contains the Proceedings of the International Conference "Copper ´06". It gives a broad and up-to-date overview on the recent progress in research and development of copper and copper alloys for usage in modern industrial applications. The current challenges and changes in the international copper industry are also highlighted and the reader gets insight in the driving forces on the international copper market.

This volume is a compilation of papers presented in the Mechanical Behavior and Performance of Ceramics & Composites symposium during the 34th International Conference & Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC) held January 24-29, 2010, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The Mechanical Behavior and Performance of Ceramics & Composites symposium was one of the largest symposia in terms of the number (>100) of presentations at the ICACC’10. This symposium covered wide ranging and cutting-edge topics on mechanical properties and reliability of ceramics and composites and their correlations to processing, microstructure, and environmental effects.

This issue contains 17 peer-reviewed (invited and contributed) papers covering various aspects and the latest developments related to processing, modeling and manufacturing technologies of nanoscaled materials including inorganic-organic nanocomposites, nanowire-based sensors, new generation photovoltaic cells, self-assembly of nanostructures, functional nanostructures for cell tracking and heterostructures. Each manuscript was peer-reviewed using The American Ceramic Society review process.

The Fourth International Symposium on Advanced Processing and Manufacturing Technologies for Structural and Multifunctional Materials and Systems (APMT) was held during the 34th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites, in Daytona Beach, FL, January 24-29, 2010.

The aim of this international symposium was to discuss global advances in the research and development of advanced processing and manufacturing technologies for a wide variety of non-oxide and oxide based structural ceramics, particulate and fiber reinforced composites, and multifunctional materials.

The Seventh International Symposium on Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC): Materials, Science, and Technology was held during the 34th International Conference and Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites in Daytona Beach, FL, January 24 to 29, 2010.

This symposium provided an international forum for scientists, engineers, and technologists to discuss and exchange state-of-the-art ideas, information, and technology on various aspects of solid oxide fuel cells.

The Armor Ceramics Symposium was held January 25-27, 2010 in Daytona Beach, FL as part of the 34th International Conference & Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites. The 8th edition of this symposium consisted of over 65 oral and poster presentations on topics such as Impact, Penetration and Material Modeling, Boron Carbide, Silicon Carbide, Dynamic Material Behavior, Transparent Materials and NDE Applications. The symposium continues to foster discussion and collaboration between academic, government and industry personnel from around the globe.
