Corrosion

Corrosion is the degradation of a material and it properties as a result of exposure to certain environments. Such environments might be moisture, acids, alkalis or even sunlight and may happen at any temperature. Corrosion is a chemical process that seeks to take a material to its most stable form in its given environment. Rust is perhaps the most common example, but several different mechanisms can cause corrosion in materials.

Corrosion Engineering, Science and Technology, an official journal of the European Federation of Corrosion, provides broad international coverage of research and practice in corrosion processes and corrosion control. Peer-reviewed contributions address all aspects of corrosion engineering and corrosion science; there is strong emphasis on effective design and materials selection to combat corrosion. CEST’s scope encompasses all metallic and non-metallic materials and composites.
