Crystallography

Crystallography is a tool that is often employed by materials scientists. In single crystals, the effects of the crystalline arrangement of atoms is often easy to see macroscopically, because the natural shapes of crystals reflect the atomic structure. In addition, physical properties are often controlled by crystalline defects.
Journals
Focusing on R&D; in advanced materials, particularly their application, Materials Technology emphasises technology transfer and the communication of information of practical value to its readers through a variety of carefully tailored formats. Coverage reflects the growing emphasis on manipulation and characterisation of structures and functional features down to the nanoscale. Recent and forthcoming theme issues cover technical textiles, light metals and biomaterials and bio-medical engineering.
Acta Crystallographica Section D: Biological Crystallography welcomes the submission of papers covering any aspect of structural biology, with a particular emphasis on the structures of biological macromolecules and the methods used to determine them. Reports on new protein structures are particularly encouraged, as are structure-function papers that could include crystallographic binding studies, or structural analysis of mutants or other modified forms of a known protein structure. The key criterion is that such papers should present new insights into biology, chemistry or structure.
Crystal Growth & Design publishes theoretical and experimental studies of the physical, chemical, and biological phenomena and processes related to the design, growth, and application of crystalline materials. Synergistic approaches originating from different disciplines and technologies and integrating the fields of crystal growth, crystal engineering, intermolecular interactions, and industrial application are encouraged.
International Materials Reviews provides authoritative introductions to current thinking and developments in materials science and engineering. Specially commissioned critical assessments of the literature give rigorous and concise overviews of important and rapidly developing topics. These reviews provide both an entry point into the field and the opportunity for specialists to update their knowledge.
Many research topics in condensed matter research, materials science and the life sciences make use of crystallographic methods to study crystalline and non-crystalline matter with neutrons, X-rays and electrons.
