Fun for the Family

Fun activities with family members and friends is part of what makes the Territory’s great lifestyle. The Territory Government is providing residents and visitors alike with the facilities to enjoy our outdoor lifestyle with water parks, wave lagoons and aquatic centres.

And its not just water activities that are on offer – the Territory Government has also provided $60,000 to help establish an ice skating rink in Alice Springs.

Wave Lagoon

Darwin’s newest water sensation has arrived!

The Territory Government’s wave lagoon at the Darwin Waterfront is now open eight hours a day, seven days a week where anyone from 0 to 100 can ride the waves, soak up some sun and enjoy the day out with family and friends.

With 10 different wave patterns and swells of up to 1.5m, the wave lagoon is a world-class fixture.

At approximately 4500 square metres – varying in width from 25m to 80m and 100m long – it’s the largest wave pool in Australia and has the highest waves. The pool is also one of only six boogie board wave pools in the world.

The fun facility also includes a toddlers pool of 2500 sqm with water features and beach area of 1500 sqm.

Alice Springs Aquatic Centre

The Territory Government has invested $8.1 million towards the development of a heated pool and aquatic recreation facility in Alice Springs delivering on an election commitment.

Stage 1 of the $14.2 million development was opened last year with Alice Springs residents now enjoying the new paddle pool and learn-to-swim pool.

Stage 2 has recently commenced which includes a beach front leisure pool with toddler area, spa, lazy river and an indoor 8 lane, 25m swimming pool with disabled access.

Leanyer Recreation Park

Leanyer Recreation Park is a place to chill out and have fun – and best of all has free entry! Located where the suburbs meet the bush, people can escape from the heat of the streets and the pressures of their daily lives.

There is something for everyone - a Water Park with a swimming area, 3 waterslides and water playground, an all abilities playground, places to skate and ride bikes and a basketball court. There are also shaded barbeques and picnic areas.

Palmerston Water Park

The Territory Government will commence building a water park in Palmerston in 2009-10.

The water park will be similar to the recently completed $5 million Stage 2 facility at Leanyer Recreation that includes waterslides, water play areas and barbecue areas for families.

The Territory Government is currently working with the Palmerston City Council to finalise a site for this free public facility. Design of the water park will be finalised once a location is decided. Read more...
