The Territory Government launched the new Chan Contemporary Art Space on 2 September 2010, together with the opening of the prestigious 2010 Togart Contemporary Art Award.

The Chan Contemporary Art Space is a demonstration of the Territory Government’s commitment to supporting Territory’s cultural environment. The exhibition space will increase awareness of the diversity of Territory contemporary visual art including new media, craft and design, will provide creative development opportunities for Territory curators, artists and art organisations and will raise the public profile of Territory contemporary art.

The Chan Contemporary Art Space is dedicated to the presentation of contemporary art in Darwin, increasing capacity for a quality exhibition venue within Darwin’s Central Business District, opposite Parliament House, to accommodate temporary and annual exhibitions for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous art.

The Space will provide increased opportunities for Territory and visitor audiences to engage with quality contemporary arts practice.

What's coming up?

2011 will see the Chan Contemporary Art Space host an exciting range of exhibitions and events that showcase the Territory’s cultural perspectives through art and creativity.
