About the Marine Biodiversity Group

The Marine Biodiversity Group is responsible for research and provision of technical and policy advice on marine biodiversity conservation and management in the Northern Territory.
The group comprises marine researchers and planners, with expertise in marine biodiversity research, assessments and conservation planning (including Marine Protected Areas and multiple-use marine plans).
Staff have extensive skills and experience in habitat mapping (including remote sensing), biodiversity surveys, marine ecological studies, conservation assessments, impact assessment and monitoring and marine policy, analysis and planning.
The Marine Biodiversity Group is located at the newly established Arafura Timor Research Facility (a shared research facility with the Australian Institute of Marine Science, the Australian National University and Charles Darwin University).
The group is currently leading and undertaking a range of collaborative marine research projects and conservation planning projects in the Northern Territory. The Group is also undertaking several externally funded international projects.
The team of seven marine scientists and planners is lead by principal scientist Professor Karen Edyvane.
