17th Special Focus on the Environment
The Awards have evolved in recent years. In 2009, we honored 10 individuals for their work on environmental issues. Last year, we selected 10 innovators for their work addressing global change – the cumulative effects of human activities and natural processes on the Earth.
In 2011, we will continue our focus on the environment. This year, we will recognize those whose work has made a significant contribution to environmental change. We will honor those who are working in unique and innovative ways to address the intersection of the environment with one of the existing Award categories (arts and humanities, human condition, public policy, and technology and the economy, as well as the environment). We would like to recognize up to 10 individuals who value the importance of our natural resources, who work to remove toxic chemicals from our air and water, who are concerned about the health of all of our citizens, who are creating artistic works, or who are crafting the policies or technology in order to ensure a sustainable planet. The nominee’s primary work might be in one of the other Award categories, but it must benefit the environment in some way.
