The PlayStation Network has been alive and kicking for nearly five years, and it's been a hell of a ride. There have been games that have scored a perfect "10," service blackouts, and plenty of Platinum Trophies. Now, the time is right for IGN to celebrate the network and pick the 25 best games on the PlayStation Store. IGN Editor Colin Moriarty and myself -- IGN PlayStation Executive Editor Greg Miller -- cobbled together a massive list of worthy PSN games and then whittled the crop down to these 25 games with the help of IGN's editors, the reviewers, and a dart board.

Now, I know you're going to jump to No. 1 and then rage in the comments below, and I'm fine with that, but let's give a little context to our list. These are the 25 games we'd recommend people pick up if they were new to the PlayStation Network. As such, we tried not to double up too much on genres and we locked out games that we loved but no longer work right. (Calling All Cars!, your servers are offline forever. RIP.) Similarly, we love games such as Outland, but as they're brand new at the time this article was originally being posted, it's impossible to know their legacies at the moment.

So, take a deep breath and get ready to enjoy the list. Oh, and don't forget that you can win all 25 of these PlayStation Network games right here on IGN.

Mushroom Wars

Released October 15, 2009

Why It Made the List

The real-time strategy genre isn't one that often finds a home on console. But this generation, that trend is starting to shift, especially in the realm of downloadable titles. On PlayStation Network, gamers can find a PSN-exclusive RTS called Mushroom Wars. With its whimsical graphics and subject matter, Mushroom Wars might strike you at first as an easy, carefree foray into a childish fantasy world. But think again. Mushroom Wars is a difficult RTS that requires acute attention to detail, quick thinking and solid strategy. As hands-down the best RTS on PlayStation Network, Mushroom Wars is a solid pick for any gamer looking to lose some time while using quite a bit of brain power.
