Meteorite Identification 1

ID #1   Yes, this is a meteorite.  It is a 129 gram Gold Basin, L4 from Northern Arizona.  It is in fact the first meteorite I ever found in the field.

ID features:

1.  It was found in a known meteorite strewn field.  You can't tell that from the picture, but location can be an important factor in identifying meteorites.  As the saying goes, if you want to find a pig, look on a pig farm.

2.  Notice the smooth brown crusted area.  The Gold Basin meteorite fell about 25,000 years ago and many pieces are in surprisingly good shape after weathering for that long.
