1-2-3-4 Staffer Fired Over Funky Floor

Twitter has had an unmistakable impact on the English language.  Since its launch, words such as ‘tweeps,’ ‘twitosphere,’ and ‘twitterati’ have become part of everyday diction.  But today we learned a new phrase: twunemployment line.  And that’s exactly where CQ Roll Call’s Subi Issa landed after twiticizing the newsgroup’s smelly kitchen floor.  According to sources familiar with the situation, Issa, a three-year vet of the organization’s Ad Operations team, was canned on Tuesday when HR caught wind (pun intended) of this tweet:

“Asked HR how long the stench of flooring chemicals would linger + all they did was assure me it’s EcoFriendly. #AnswerTheDamnQuestion.”

Allegedly Issa was fired up about an offensive chemical odor funking up her workspace – the stench of an institutional gray kitchen floor that was recently installed in the office.  When presented with the tweet, CQRC brass decided Issa’s twattitude reeked way more than their funky floor so they showed her the door.

HR declined to comment on the issue, saying only “unfortunately, Roll Call does not discuss personnel matters.”  When reached for his take on the matter, Coolio said “1-2-3-4 better not tweet that stank-ass floor.”

Baltimore Sun Scribe Moves to Bloomberg

Julie Byckowicz of The Baltimore Sun is headed to Washington to work for Bloomberg. She apparently has a giant trash bin by her desk, which is making some colleagues upset about her imminent departure. She remarked on Twitter today, “Tweeps: It’s my last day at The Baltimore Sun. I’ve had great fun interacting with you all on Twitter and plan to stay here in my new job.”

Congratulations to Byckowicz.

Incest Desk

This afternoon’s Incest Desk features a pair we’ve featured before. Apparently this father-daughter duo doesn’t care about the image factor. Things to ponder: Is The Hill going to start paying Howie? And will The Daily Beast start compensating Howiella for any scoops her father may leak to her?

The Daily Beast‘s Washington Bureau Chief Howard Kurtz got that exclusive about Elizabeth Smart joining ABC. The Daily Beast wrote on Twitter: “Exclusive: Elizabeth Smart to join ABC News as pundit for missing persons cases. @HowardKurtz on the surprise hire.” Read here.

But guess who also gets an “exclusive”? Kurtz’s daughter. The Hill‘s @JudyKurtz: “ITK Exclusive: Elizabeth Smart defends role as ABC contributor, “feels bad” for critics.” Read here.

UPDATE: The Hill‘s Managing Editor Bob Cusack wanted to weigh in on this. He wrote FishbowlDC, “This item is false, which we would have explained had we had a chance to comment before it was posted. Earlier this week, two editors at The Hill, including me, were contacted by Hybrid Communications. The firm simply offered us an interview with Elizabeth Smart and we got Judy on the case. Judy has hit the ground running at The Hill and readers in the nation’s capital have taken notice.”

Editor’s note: Agree to disagree. When FBDC makes observations about fishy coincidences, we do not think it’s necessary to get anyone to comment on whether they share our sentiment that it is an unusual coincidence. The fact that two related Kurtz journalists had a scoop on Elizabeth Smart after Howard Kurtz recently pimped his daughter’s story on Rob Lowe’s son after Howie personally profiled Lowe, caught our eye. We wish Judy Kurtz the best in acquiring new readers.

NBC Goofs Up Christie Breathing Problems

Could have been worse.

NBC Nightly News apologized for the following message on Twitter regarding New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie being taken to the hospital for breathing problems related to asthma. They initially wrote, “NJ Governor Chris Christie taken to hospital for breaking problems.” Minutes later, they offered, “Apologies for typo it is breathing problems. Thanks to all who corrected.”

But not before the peanut gallery came roaring in. “Nice typo,” snarked Crooks and Liars Managing Editor and former FishbowlLA’s Tina Dupuy.

We don’t think this is a joke, but Potomac Flacks blogger Matt Mackowiak retweeted the news, with one word: “Praying.” Human EventsTony Lee, meanwhile, wrote this note of hope: “In all forseriousness, I wish Chris Christie well — no one should have to go thru breathing probs — here’s to no medical f–kups.” And we knew this was coming. One woman on Twitter wrote, “For what, inhaling a sandwich?” This just in from another: “Maybe Chris Christie had trouble breathing considering he’s 400 pounds.” And finally, there was this relevant Washington-directed message: “Chris Matthews is going to feel awkward for saying on Monday that none of the heavy-set GOPers were running for president.”
