Coastcare is community volunteers working together to protect and manage our coastal and marine environments. Landcare is the promotional and sponsorship marketing arm for Coastcare groups across Australia.
Natural resource management issues such as weed control, fire management, habitat restoration, marine debris, feral animal control and dune and soil erosion control are examples of typical activities many dedicated community groups undertake under the Landcare and Coastcare programs.

The Territory’s Landcare and Coastcare programs are supported and coordinated by Territory Natural Resource Coastcare logoManagement (Territory NRM).

Caring for our Country

The Australian Government’s Caring for our Country program, announced in July 2008, aims to achieve an environment that is healthy, better protected, well-managed, resilient and provides essential ecosystem services in a changing climate.

Australian Framework for Landcare

The Australian Framework for Landcare was released in 2010 and is a guide for landcarers and the Landcare community and provides a foundation on which to base the further development and growth of the Landcare approach.

The Framework is also a guide to stakeholders and prospective partners, including industry, corporations, governments at all levels and regional and catchment organisations, as to how they can engage with landcarers in addressing sustainability issues of common concern.

The Framework was prepared by a Reference Group made up of Landcare community members and guided by comments and views of the Landcare community and stakeholders.  The process for the development of the Framework was fully supported by the Australian Government.

Further information about the Framework can be found at Australian Framework for Landcare.
