Now look here, young chap(ess). George Osborne calls in new MPs

George Osborne has spent some of this afternoon quietly meeting new-intake Conservative MPs in the House of Commons. A routine meeting, I'm sure. And certainly nothing to do with jitters among the new kids about the Coalition's plans on Capital Gains Tax.

But let's just say the subject did come up, then the meeting would have been a good chance for the Chancellor to try to calm some nervous newbies who have been struggling to explain to angry constituents why Conservative ministers are planning a big jump in the taxes they'll pay when they sell their hard-earned shares and buy-to-let properties.
