When Gordon Brown was PM, it was common among MPs, hacks and officials to snigger about his mangling of the pronunciation of place names, surnames and not a few common English words.

So what do we do when David Cameron does the same? I ask because in PMQs, the PM made rather a hash of "Kirkcaldy". (If you're wondering, the "l" is silent. And the "a" should sound more like an "o".)

Perhaps the final word here should go to Kevin Schofield of the Sun:

Note to David Cameron: If you want a Tory revival in Scotland, at least learn how to pronounce "Kirkcaldy".
